NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <----(Did I use enough exclamation marks?!?)

It CAN indeed cause Salmonella poisoning.

The 'shiny coat' thing is a total fallacy....a falsehood....a myth. Raw eggs actually contain an enzyme that is known to cause the coat to look more DULL, not shiny -- a fact that often flies over the heads of those who recommend it. (Basic Animal Nutrition 101) Cooking the egg destroys this enzyme so it won't be an issue (and eliminates the possibility of Salmonella), but there is just NO GOOD REASON to feed eggs in any form to dogs.

If your dog is already on an appropriate balanced diet and you add just one 'type' of food to it, you've just thrown that entire nutritional balance completely out of kilter. Why would you want to do that???

My lord. What's wrong with people? You have a vet and a a few other people here who told you why it's not good to give your dog a raw egg and yet leave negative votes for them. Are you all stupid?!?!

Just because you gave your dog a raw egg with no ill effects doesn't mean it won't or can't happen to your dog in the future or that it will an never happen.

Don't you think the vet would know the right answer and has no doubt has seen and treated some cases of salmonella poisoning in her 27 years of treating animals. ? I swear , you people who think it's OK must be dumber than dumb. Just because it hasn't happened, doesn't
mean it can't or won't happen.

Well, if you all don't care about your dog, go ahead and keep feeding them raw eggs. and make sure you give them to your dog more than just once a day or once a week. We'll see how and shiny your dog's coat is then and how healthy your dog is.

I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for this response, but frankly, I don't care.

Don't panic! 8 is rather excessive but it won't kill him! It might give him a touch of diarrhoea or it could even have the opposite effect but as long as he's not been sick he should be OK! The shells wont harm him either! My dog eats eggs regularly shells as well! She'd eat them and nothing else if I let her. She once got into the hen house at my uncles and ate a dozen and apart from having a heavy dose of wind (VERY SMELLY) was fine. A dog's digestive track is much shorter than ours and they're scavengers and will eat things that are pretty rancid without any problems we'd have. He may be sick but if he's kept them down this long I doubt it!

While dogs can eat some of the same foods that we do, there are many they should not eat.

Raw eggs can cause salmonella poisoning in dogs. Dogs have a shorter digestive tract than humans and are not as likely to suffer from food poisoning, but it is still possible.

Personally, I wouldn't take the chance and when my dog does get an egg, I usually scramble or hard boil it. I think it's better to err on he side of caution.

See the link I have attached regarding food safety.

No. Dogs cannot eat raw eggs because they are like people in a way and we may get salmonella poisoning. They will most likely get it too and if you want to take the risk than fine.

It is good for the dogs coat.... but it could give the dog "salmonella poisoning"
If you do decide to give your dog raw egg, wash the egg before cracking it and be sure when you crack the egg,do it on a flat surface so the shell doesn't go inside the egg, that is how the salmanella gets into the egg.

Yes they are, they make the coat shinny too! You can mix a raw egg in with your dogs food daily if you want. Remeber dogs use to be wolves and when was the last time you saw a wolf fry eggs or even cook their food?????

yes i feed my dogs raw food every now and then (theyre mostly kibble fed due to parents being very unsupportive)

i quickly dip the eggs in bleach and wash them off with hot water. (chickens arent born with salmonella....or however you spell it so it must come from the outside of an egg. People and pets get it when the food isnt clean)

It may also depend on your dog's food. Some foods may contain fillers and arent sutable to be fed with raw foods.

BTW in raw food practices of any kind....cooking the food kills off the main nutrients.

Eggs will not make the coat dull and is a part of BARF and other raw food diets.

Why? I mean, they obviously get exposed to these things if they're growing up wild, but since most domesticated dogs have been tame for thousands of years, again I say, why?

There is more nutritional value in a reputable dog food, then in anything else you can feed him.

Yes, you can mix it into their dry dog food. Raw eggs help to keep there coat shiny.
