As bad as you think it was in the 60s, just remember the 80s. :)

Beehive; also known as the B52 (the huge USAF bomber, which isn’t dissimilar to the hairdo!)
Like others have said - in the 1960's was, way, way out there – but you could do a lot worse than the B-52!
You’d probably think I’m mad, but I have a soft spot for the beehive (maybe because my Mom and Aunts all had them in the 1960’s)! A beehive with false lashes and mascara; and a one-piece dress of modest length – though conservative, can actually be quite elegant. Blondes usually carry off the B-52 better, because their hair just blends in with their skin tone (unlike big, black hair, which can be grossly distracting).

They were considered tasteful at THAT time.
Remember, there was a lot of drug use going on at the time, so perceptions of good taste were considerably warped!
You think the 60s beehive was bad, how about white people with huge afros in the 70s! Now THAT'S scary!

It was the fad and some folks just dare to be different. Some men today are shaving their heads. Its kinda like the kids wearing their pant below the butts. I don't like it but what ever tricks your trigger!

I think women styled their hair like this for two reasons....First, It did elongate the body line and give them a "taller" look.
Second, because it elongated the body line, it also gave them a more slimming look.

It was a fad back then, the same way fanny packs and super-flared jeans ruled in the 90s and now the 2000s. :)
PS - The 90s ruled!

I think they wanted to look as natural as they could...
(And spiritual too, you know like Jesus...)
I would like to grow my hair and beard, too,
but, unfortunately I can't (ha-ha)!!!!
I mean, full beard doesn't look nice without a hair.
Go see my yahoo 360 slide show, you'll see what I'm talking about!
