To the agnostic/atheist: Didnt Karl Marx say that religion was the opiate of the masses! I see that he was indifferent to organized religion as am I. Jesus Christ wisdom is barely tolerable but soso. I like Buddha wisdom and nonviolence.

I think 'disgusted' is a more appropriate word. I am disgusted by stupidity, willful ignorance and self delusion... which pretty much sums up the Abrahamic death cults of desert monotheism (Judaism, Christianity, Islam).

It disgusts me to know that three-quarters of the population of the USA is infected with some sort of insidious mental virus that leads them to the insane certainty that the myths, superstitions, fairy tales and fantastical delusions of a bunch of ignorant Bronze Age fishermen and wandering goat herders represent some kind of cosmic 'TRUTH' about fundamental aspects of existence and reality.

It disgusts me to know that so many people dwell in a delusional reality (per Genesis) in which a 6,000 year-old Earth is seperated from a 6,000 year-old Heaven by a solid 'firmament' structure (the sky).

I am disgusted by the fact that these people believe that they inhabit a magical universe, which they share with talking snakes (with legs) and donkeys, a shepherd staff that turns into an asp, demons chased out of people and into pigs, friendly spirits, evil spirits, walking on water, multiplying loaves and fishes, food falling from the sky, conception by a ghost, people raised from the dead, the sun stopping in its tracks, parting seas, people being bodily sucked up into heaven (which, by the way, lies on the 'other side' of the sky), world-wide flood that drowned the earth to a depth of 40 feet above the tallest mountain, creating people from a dust bunny and a rib, a magical tree of knowledge, god speaking from a burning bush... and ritual cannibalism, by eating god in the form of a cracker.

In a sane world, anybody running around spouting ANY of that crap, would be locked up in the State Farm for the Funny. Apparently, though, mass insanity seems to convey some sort of free pass for the loony.

It disgusts me to know that in our society, irrational, deluded people who ACTUALLY BELIEVE such nonsense is TRUE are permitted to vote, hold public office, procreate, and shape the minds trusting, vulnerable children.

It disgusts me to know that these same people think that there is something wrong with those who DON'T believe all of this ridiculous crap.

Get a grip.

Their actions make me angry and disappointed. Individually, I think i feel more sorry for them than anything. It's like seeing an adult wearing a diaper. Or an adult who thinks there is a boogie man under his bed.

As for the big picture though i feel very scared for humanity because these people, who lack reasoning skills, have political power.

Kark Marx wasn't indifferent to religion.

“The first requisite of the happiness of the people is the abolition of religion.” - Karl Marx

"Religious distress is at the same time the expression of real distress and also the protest against real distress. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of spiritless conditions. It is the opium of the people. To abolish religion as the illusory happiness of the people is to demand their real happiness. The demand to give up illusions about the existing state of affairs is the demand to give up a state of affairs which needs illusions." [Karl Marx, "Contribution to the Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Law: Introduction", in the Deutsch-Franzoesische Yahrbuecher, 1844.]

The first word that comes to mind is: Justified (as in beliefs) Other words come to mind also: frightened, superior, right, and many more.
I am basically a religious guy. I have my beliefs. But from what I see here, I would feel fully vindicated in my beliefs were I an atheist...vindicated by the very Christians that lamblasts every atheist here! And vindicated by Muslims..by their actions and beliefs. A word to the wise...stop with all the damnation, casting of stones, and judgements. By doing this, you make yourselves look very bad. Good luck and peace.

Fundamentalists are offended by way of fact they have faith that they are below attack. From their attitude, they have considered the authority of scripture demolished, the social mores of their grandparents (which they anticipate to be God ordained) solid aside, and the fact of the Gospel replaced by making use of a guy-based pop psychology. they are lampooned by making use of the two secular subculture and their own Christian brethren. that is no longer that amazing that they sense threatened and have a tendency to respond with anger. they are in an purely approximately perpetual state of combat or flight. In fairness, that is going to be mentioned that almost each and each protestant denomination of a hundred years in the past would be seen fundamentalist at present.

I'm an agnostic and tho religious zealots irritate me sometimes they aren't worth getting my boxers in a wad. I posted a question here concerning a vid of a Christian indoctrination center called "Jesus Camp" in which little children are conditioned to hate nonchristians, consider themselves to be an "army of God" and to worship a cardboard cutout of GW Bush. i only got 4 responses, 2 of which were from Christians who praised Jesus Camp. what wackadoos! as repellent as religious zealots are they're also pretty funny ... and a little scary considering that one of them is sitting in the Whitehouse with his finger on the big red Rapture button.

As long as neither has any power over me I find them hysterically funny. Imagine being brainwashed into staying in the same mental state as an 8 year old for life and fervently believing such tripe.
I liked Monty Python's take on it.

amused, slightly worried at the state some people put themselves in. When masses believe in something that is imaginary and has never left any evidence all because of a book written by primitive men, it's scary.

Nah. They just don't read them. Same with agnostics. Most of the time, Fundies post stuff to intentionally make us angry. I ignore them. Nothing makes attention seekers more pissed than being ignored, right?

Atheists get their anger from within themselves as do many non-atheists. It's frustrating to them that people believe in God and they vent this frustration on us Christians. I wouldn't include Islamic fundamentalists with Christianity. The two are very different and the reasons atheists would be angry might be very different as well.

All the fundamentalists on here have helped to cement for me the fact that my atheism is the best choice I ever could have made.
