Not really. I am not mexican first of all, but I do have some friends that are. The reason why you think it's all the same thing is that those are the most popular things that other people will eat. There is so much more that those things in Mexican food and even if something is called something it is not always made the same way. The food we eat here in the USA is more like Tex-Mex food, where we take what we think is tastey. B/c really tac shells aren't really that mexican

I'm with the woman that commented before me....they're all the same because that isn't REAL Mexican food. Sure, all the ingredients are the same at Taco Bell and Chevy's, but they aren't if you try authentic Mexican food. You would be surprised by the amazing taste, depth of flavor, and variety of ingredients :)

The only reason it's called tex-mex or as YOU call it "AMERICAN-Mex" is because we really have no true mexican food here, it's all been americanized, and real mexican food is made with stuff we don't normally eat here in the US. Things like Mole, and Goat Cheese, and they REALLY don't use nacho cheese or cheddar cheese in REAL mexican food, so think of all of it as americanized mexican food.

I guess you must be refering to the american-mexican food. I guess it's like saying that all US food is hamburgers (a la McDonalds) or hot dogs.
Mexican food is very rich in different ingredients, both regional and nationwide.
You should have some Pollo Almendrado (Almond Chicken), which is a type of Mole, very nicely done with I don't know how many ingredients.. Or Chiles en Nogada, or .. lots of different dishes, all of them high quality and different.

There should be real mexican food, because the real one has a wide range of ingredients.
But the stereotype mexican food has like 6 ingredients.

The people that developed the recipes we think of as Mexican were for the most part poor and had limited resources. The fact that that were able to come up with so many uses for simple ingredients is amazing.
