Because when ur with ur date u ejnoy each other when another person is there u can't be romantic another person in the picture it's hard to enjoy

You can be comfortably intimate with company ( one other person) , but it may not be so comfortable trying to be intimate with a third person present.
You and your gf can make out on the couch when no one else is home, but would you do it if her mother were there. That makes the three, and thus the crowd.
Unless, of course, you are into a menage a trois.
Often times this is a polite way of telling the third person in a party to get lost because you are about to get into some serious making out.
