I have some little beasts like that at home, too! ;) I've always avoided "doctoring" their liquids. I don't want them to ever refuse to drink something because they think it might have medicine in it. Also, it becomes difficult to know how much medication the child received if he doesn't finish the drink (been there, done that). Anyway, what I've done with my kids is promise to give them a piece of candy beforehand, then another afterward. I try to suggest a candy with a really strong flavor, like red jellybeans, candy corn, stuff like that. It helps kill the taste of the medication, and it will take the medicine taste out of his mouth after. So far, it's been working for me!
Good luck and I hope your son feels better soon.

Mix it in ice cream? My daughter hated the liquid meds did you know that antibiotics come in chewable tabs? Maybe your child is ready for this. My girl learned to swallow tablets at 2 cause she didn't like the liquids. Try the chewable. There comes a time when you may have to threaten the child with punishment you are the parent and there are times that the child is going to have to do what you say like take the medicine. Offer a treat after the medication is down. I hate to be a bully but strep is serious and can lead to other complications.

NEVER mix medicine with a drink. First of all, they may not drink the whole thing and then the medicine will not be effective. Most importantly, many drinks, especially Orange or citrus juices cause the body metabolize the medication quickly and it goes to the liver and does not stay in the system long enough to work. After time, this can cause liver damage. This includes soda's. If bribery does not work, you may have to force it down--as hard as it is. Many medications now come in melting tablets for children. As your Dr. or pharmacist about this.

I know how you feel. My 3 year old daughter will not take liquid meds at all. Or chew ables. I have to hold her down and put it in her mouth . I know it sounds horrible, but I do not want her to end up in the hospital because of a high fever. She usually just vomits after wards. I just hope , every time, that she is getting some of the medicine in her stomach.

Unless it was bubble gum flavored Amoxicillian-my children refuses to take medicine as well. I have had to resort to 1.) pill form that was crushed and mix in with thier food. 2.) when dealing with cough and colds get Vicks Children vapor patch. Patches work good-takes care of the problem without the headache of trying to get a determined child who will not take anything.

I told my son if he did not take the medicine by mouth the doctor could give hime a shot of antibiotic to get rid of the illness. He did not want the shot so he took the meds. If your child won't take the needed antibiotic to get better, it might be in his best interest to get the shot of antibiotic. Shots hurt but they are over quick and at least he will get all his meds.

i used to force my 5 year old too. but this is what i do now. i keep a siringe on thetable and pour the medicine in a "medecine" cup. then i tell him to take the medecine or i will inject the injection into him. i then reward him after he has swallowed the medicine with chocolate. it even works with my 2 year old. i scare him with the siringe and he swallows even the bitterest medicine. never mix medicine with any other drinks and never give medicine in an empty stomach.be patient. if he doesnot swallow once, give him again and be firm.

If it's a nasty tasting medicine the dr prescribes , I usually mix grape tylenol in with the medicine, with strep they are pretty much going to have a fever as well.
Some pharmacies can add a flavor to the medicine.

believe it or not its parents set up the attitude not knowing they did.
be no nonsense. put it in. last resort hold their nose let them swallow. then say all done. not so bad. good job.
no baby or child likes meds.
if need be get out a parenting book with some more specific advice. watch that show the nanny on TV. she can turn any child into a cooperative one!

You should put it in his juice, this is what I use to do. My 4 yr old gives me a hard time to take her medication also but I tell her that I will buy her something to get her to do it and it works. I know I should not do that but I really want her to take her medication...
