I recently connected the dots and figured out the real reason for the Muslim outrage against the Pope's Regensburg speech. It has nothing to do with Manuel II Paleologus and everything to do with a simple misunderstanding. The problem was they confused Logos with Legos. Those toy blocks are made by a Danish company, the same country that printed the Mohammad cartoons. They thought the pope said "God acts with Legos" and "In the beginning was the Legos." This specific approval of a Danish product that is used by God could easily be seen as approval of those cartoons.

Did you hear on CNN that the pope has "bird flu"? He got it from a cardinal.

Seriously, I guess that as Daniel Pipes says, the basic message is that because of Muslims violent reaction, Islamic law rules Westerners too because you no longer have the privilege to say what you will about Islam, the Prophet, and the Qur'an.

So much for American rights of freedom of speech, redress of grievances and democracy itself. Islam is antithetical to them all

The resulting "outrage" over the Popes speech in which he quoted words from a previous century is due to a very poor translation from German by the BBS and then sent out over the newswires in this improper translation. The basis of the popes speech was to show the need for "reason and faith" and that this is not a "new" problem, but centuries old. The translation has since been corrected and anyone with even an iota of reason can read for themself and understand what the pope quoted and in its complete context.

Protest is justified but why resort to violence? By the way we are all made up from Lego, Gods lego.
