My wife has a co-worker who is a Jehovas Witness. She has always refused to work those holidays. If Witnesses do not celebrate them why refuse to work them?

that is a point of convience -sad but true

and the point they let their people die rather than use a doctor and get blood is a further point -that one not so convienient.

pray for them to come to the Jesus of the bible and not their new world translation-which makes him a god -rather than the original-as God-John 1vs 1&14 In the begining was God, and the word was God-who became flesh and dwelt amongst us-not a god as they changed it to.

It sounds like your wife's co-worker is making a false excuse because she doesn't want to work on those holidays. It has nothing to do with being a Jehova's Witness. The Witnesses don't recognize national or "pagan" holidays, which includeThanksgiving, Christmas and birthdays. Your wife's employer is obviously not aware of this, and is being taken advantage of. Or maybe they are afraid of being accused of discrimination, regardless of the facts.

If this is really the case then it is very likely that the Witness in question is married to a man who does not share her faith, and so she requires to be excused from work that day because her husband recognizes the "holiday" and expects his wife to comply with it as far a her conscience will allow her to given her beliefs.

instead of asking this website why dont you ask the co-worker?She probably has a valid reason.
Just because Witnesses dont celebrate certain holidays doesnt automatically mean they have nothing else to do with their time.

We need to be equitable with our days off no matter if we use them to celebrate a holiday or not.

Perhaps this particular JW has decided that these dates are good for knocking on doors and disturbing the general peace with a load of BS.
