It is written that "You will know them by their fruits."
I waited to post my thoughts beyond the verse above which I feel is very relavent to your situation. Is your example that of good fruit or bad fruit while you are proclaiming the name of Christ in your life and then living with a man outside of marriage?
You are calling yourself a Christian and it is no one's right to judge your salvation, however as a believer in Christ you are open to DISCERNMENT and even REBUKING from your fellow Brothers and Sisters in Christ. You are hurting your Christian walk by doing this. You are also hurting others with your example. Please read on, and though I am firm with my words, I say them with deep love for you because you are in a very difficult situation.
You, living in sin with your boyfriend is not a Christian example, therefore as a representative of Christ you are giving His name a bad name.
Worship and the reading of God's word in church is done by those with a firm foundation in Christ and is done before (in front of) believers and unbelievers alike. You being up front in church AS AN EXAMPLE is a big calling and one that demands humbleness and a full understanding of what your role in front means.
You, living with your boyfriend outside of marriage and leading worship (Worship of Jesus Christ) is setting a contradictory example of Christ's teachings and is a stumbling block of believers and unbelievers alike.
I understand that you want a church to accept you for YOU and YOUR beliefs and that is fine. Then go find a church that believes in living in sin. But at the very least, don't drag Jesus Christ's name through the mud of your example, by trying to get up and LEAD PEOPLE TO WORSHIP before the THRONE OF GOD.
You might consider leading worship somewhere else where they worship a god that says it is ok to live with a man outside of marriage. But know this, that will not be Christ's church.

first stop blaming everything on Jesus we are make decisions and carrying them out with out the 10 commandments ,we get married and the preaches said what God has join together, well God did not put some of this mess together, do you think God is pleased with you shacking up,you got a good church ,not letting you stand before them reading the word and not carrying it out, and you know you're wrong shacking up ,God forgives but when he does do you think that means go sin again until you can ask for forgiveness again, suppose there is no next time before you die ,I wouldn't be caught died in bed with my boy friend ,let your boy friend know how much of a woman of honor you are by moving out until you get your life straight. God Bless you

"because i live with my boyfriend in a defacto relationship which they say is unchristian."
This is quoting the asker's question.
Read the passage in John regarding the Samaritan woman and then decide what you're going to do. I suggest the Eastern Orthodox faith - although you still won't be able to play the guitar (you could join the choir instead) and read the Gospel (you could volunteer to read the Epistle) during service. Someone with your talents could be used to play guitar during a church festival or other event (Christmas program, teaching Sunday school etc.)

Your Church is right. I lived in a shacked up relationship for three years, the Church I attended was loving and supportive, but I couldn't be involved in Ministry, I was in sin. They were kind to me, and the woman I was with, but they drew the line at any form of Ministry. They did me a favor. BTW, Jesus tough us to love one another, not to live in rebellion to His WORD.

Why do you want an answer for something you already know the answer to? Defacto relationship? What a nice way to put it. It sounds so innocent. What did you expect?....for them to say that it's okay? Don't expect THEM to change the rule just for you. Go cry on someone elses shoulder.

Nobody should be run out of a church building used for the Gathering and Assembling of the Children of GOD.
GOD don't care if your Lost or Saved and sinning or just Saved in order to come into an service where the Holy Spirit is in Charge. After all, anybody can get the Help they need from GOD Almighty by getting in a Meeting!
Ask Jesus to show you where HE Wants you to Sing and Play the Guitar---Jesus uses Music in a Mighty Way to help ALL PEOPLE.
Bow down to no man, only BOW DOWN to JESUS.

this situation is sad as the Church Leaders must realize times have changed. in Culture and Society in the past these relationships were not looked on favorably and many people disagree even today. however you must also realize the Church Doctrine may not approve of these arrangements. therefore there are two sides to every issue. why not talk to your minister, priest or rabbi and see what can be done to change the situation. if you approach these leaders in a reasonable not confrontational manner perhaps things would change. good luck

John 14:15
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.
fornication is a sin.
your church is right to not allow you into any leadership type position as long as you continue to live in sin
James 4:8
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
You want to serve God? Obey Him
Acts 15:20
But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
1 Corinthians 5:9
I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
1 Corinthians 5:11
But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
there's more, get the picture?

Oh Lord. Sorry I am a believer but this is one too many of these// Have been really worried for these kind of people. They church it up and think everything is fine and they are probably further away then the atheists on this board. Getting a little teary again not sure what is with me.. I don't know how they are gonna do it..(I was there, in Hell, I dunno how they are gonna do it)... Oh God help us.
Sorry.
Just be yourself no matter what they say/ And you are probably better off not being around them. We have to leave it up to God. Just be a uniting force in your surrounding and that is all I can say. Pray for them/

You are not the only one that has this kind of questions regarding the church not allowing you to play instrument or sing.
It is not the church that would let us discourage our faith but as a believer and follower of Christ, I have read lots of scriptures regarding this.. as we have to warn our brothers and sisters.
We had members who were living with their partners without marriage and they can sing at the church, but as their faith grows mature, most of them got married..I think the Pastor and elders are just protecting the image of the church and our gospel singers knew about it, but they never get discouraged and they now living together with marriage blessings.. how great is the Lord, for He will set you free...
1 Peter 2:11-12
11Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. 12Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
1 Peter 2
1Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
1 Peter 2:15-21
15For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. 16Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. 17Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.
18Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. 19For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. 20But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
the answer to your questions would matter on how much you grow on your faith...
god bless you!
