TSA needs to be able to inspect inside the bag, that is why they ask for the key if you have locked it. once your bag has been inspected they are required to re secure it

Most luggage that comes with a lock is TSA approved. This means that a TSA master key will open in for inspections. If you use any other kind of lock the TSA will cut it and they will not reimburse you for it.

You cannot lock you checked baggage unless you use a TSA approved lock. They have the means to open them to inspect the bags and re lock it . see:

nvr ever lock ur bag whenever u travel to US bcoz of da tight security...but u can use dos TSA locks...but if u use ur own locks....dei will break ur lock open leaving ur bag damaged
