The correct term is blackboard. This is because the original was black and the chalk used was typically white for greater contrast. Many times, the blackboard was green - and it was still referred to as a blackboard.
Depending on the region you are from, some call it a "chalk board." When a few poorly informed individuals heard it was referred to as a chalkboard rather than a blackboard, misunderstandings turned it into a racial slur.
In yet another perfectly harmless terminology or an educational device for all races, our verbiage is being forced to refer to it as a chalk board.
It's really sad.

Oh, for pete's sake! I am so tired of all this "politically correct" BS! If the slate it's black, it's a blackboard. If the slate is green, it's a chalkboard.
I do like "educational enhancement plane" alot for a laugh.

it was never called a blackboard because of any racial slur.....it's the color black, there for it's a blackboard
