I doubt there is much actual evidence to back up these "statistics"
One thing to bare in mind is that what people expect from a relationship and the age at which they enter into one has changed with generations.
Also the male:female balance has changed with generations.
It can effect the balance of power. For women in their 30-40s there was a population boom (at least in the UK) so as men tended to marry at least a couple of years younger it meant there was a shortage of men - hence the "bridget jones effect"
However for the next generation the reverse is true. In the developed World the number of young peope is falling so that means there are more men than women.
Also fertility treatments mean women can delay having children and they can persue careers. So there may be less of a rush for them as well.
I have been out with a 30 year old when i was 22 - and it was awful and my boyfriend is now four years younger than me and it is going well.
Love doesn't always follow mathematical formulae.

Who are they, and where did they think this up ? I have never heard of this formula.
No I do not agree. A 40 year old is too old for someone in their 20's. Probably about 7 or 10 years difference is a max., but I have seen larger gaps work, not the norm though.

Hi-
Skip the math. Everyone usually reaches a mature level in due time. Communication with your partner is number one. In other words for people to be compatable, age does not matter. As a society on the whole - do not allow people to judge your kindness and goodness towards an eg: 18 year old, or a 50 year old. The world is not in your relationship with your partner--you are!

I believe this is to much of an age difference. My boyfriend and I are a little over 2 years apart and this seems to work fine. I would never date someone that is younger than me or someone that is four years or older than me. For one, if he was four years older than me he could drink legally and this could cause a lot of problems in the relationship. Another reason would be that people that far apart in age can want totally different things in life.

I have heard that girls mature faster than boys and to some extent I believe this is true. However, I also believe that other factors can play an important role in taking these statistics. Such as how a person was raised, physical and emotional trauma, religious values instilled, etc. etc.
I personally believe that calculating love like this is strange but.. if it works for someone... who am I to judge.

hmmm I have never heard of this equation BUT it sounds like another tool of hopefulness used by those who aren't faring well in the relationship department. I think all of us look for and want love and the best way to find success in that is to be yourself and stop creating romantic expectations..(media has helped our society create these). There is NOTHING foolproof about finding love and it is an individual thing as we all have different needs. Figure out your needs and do what ya gotta to fulfill them...

UM NO. I did a 9 year difference once. Didn't last over a year.
I'd say the age thing is hit and miss. No rule for it.
