I'm not going for popularity on this one so thumbs down all you like Christians. I'm being straightforward and honest as to how you are being seen. I'll list not only what it is, but why you are seen this way.

Most Atheists have been confronted with Christianity in their life one way or another. There are many Atheists who came from a religious background and saw through the manipulation process that the churches go through.

1.Religiously Dogmatic - Christians spout passages like it's going to mean something to an Atheist. We're not looking for answers as to what the book says. It's not going to convert us or change our pespective. When you find yourself cut and pasting onto message boards. You're wasting your time.

2. Fearful - Primary motivation of most Christians that I have spoken to as to why I should believe is due to the consequenses of me not believing. HELL HELL HELL! What they fail to understand is that belief isn't a choice.

More coming.

3. Blind - I've talked with more Christians who refuse to even hear what I have to say. They'll spout passages and tell me all about what Jesus said. I come up with an arguement that points out a flaw'd perspective and all the sudden the conversation ends.
ie."The Bible is the word of God, so it is perfect." My response is "but it's been written by imperfect men and mistranslated many times. Therefore it is NOT imperfect." they say "I don't want to talk with you. You're close minded."

4.Denying - you DO care what we think because you wouldn't spend all this time on these boards trying to convert us. If it didn't matter why all the dogma? Most Christians suffer from Cognitive Dissonance. They spend so much time trying to convince themselves that their one way, but live their lives contrary to that.

5. Scary - Blind faith such as many of the Christians have had were also why groups like the Manson Family, Davidians, Heavens Gate, and Jonestown. If you never question your souces. You'll never know where you will end up.

I have converted many people from the program of Christianity. They've brainwashed you since birth and it's time that you open your minds to the truth. The church will always spend more money to keep you afraid and believing. I have faith in all you Christians and hope that some day you'll all see the Light of Truth.

Bless you all!

1) Thank you for taking time to explain this to me.
We understand that the Bible does not mean anything to you and you do not believe like us ( We believe that the Bible is God's life manual for us, written by humans and inspired by God. )...and you will not ever understand the Bible the way God inteded you to do if you do not let Holy Spirit in you heart.

I know that might sound crazy to you, but that makes all the differense. We are not converitn you, we just plant seeds. We cannot change your heart...but Jesus can. He is in life changing business. You think you know your options, but you do not. God knows what is the best for you, but if you do not let Him to give you the best...then you will have to deal with all the options yoy think you will have.

I have never cut and past here, but I use the Bible a lot because that is word of my God. I never feel that I am wasting time...not even now. I do not know you at all, but there is never too small service to God.

I am totally aware of the thing that after you read this, you just give it a thumb down..and phooof...there it goes. I personally think that it is a miracle when some one gives time for other person like this...I could just write."YOU THINK SO, THAT IS FINE BE ME"

2)You have your free will. I do not know any better love than with choice. God loves you even though you do not give time of your day to think about His plan for your life. I have a teen daughter, and it can be frustrating...but I love here anyway.

God is God no matter what you think about God. As we have a lot of choices here on earth, there is only two choice what comes to eternal life:hell and heaven. God will have a lot of proof that you did not want to be with him, so if you do not want to be with Him...you will not. Easy as that. We just want you to understand what you are up against. But if you do not care...why I should...I will respet your choice, so will He.

You do not have to be a bad person to miss heaven, just be ignorant to God's instructions. We do not get saved because we are good, we get saved only by the mercy and grace of God, our Lord and Savior.

I am not sure that some atheists are entirely different. I often read many atheists responding that reason, logic, and common sense leads to atheism, yet the claims fail to show me how. Likewise, some atheists constantly rant and rave about how stupid Christians are in the same manner Christians spout religious dogma. I really don't see the difference there. You however seem to be different, and at least reasonable.

I am a Christian, and I agree that religious dogma is a bad thing. I do however think one can be a Christian and reason with atheists even if we don't agree. Some Christians would frown on me for doing so. I do like good conversation and thought provoking questions.

I think that you are entitled to your opinion about faith, christianity, beliefs, manipulation. What I do not understand, truly, is why this diametrically opposed group of people have to try to convince the other they are right. What possible difference can it make to the life you are living today, right now? I am Christian, I understand possibly every person living on this planet today, who is interested, has or is in the process of developing some belief system. Whether that includes what possibly happens after we pass from this life should have less to do with the real issue of how we are living. Do we respect and treat others as we desire to be treated? Are we truly responsible for changing others opinions about their beliefs? Does it truly matter if one group calls The Creator, Christ, God, Muhammad, Budda, Evolution what ever. It seems we are missing the whole point. Religion is about "living" a purposeful life. Contributing to the good of life for myself and others on this planet. Having understanding, not being judgemental about others opinions or beliefs. When I pass from this life, I am only going to be concerned about how I lived my life. I am only going to take responsibility for my actions and deeds. And whether I go to heaven, hell, rot and turn into soil, come back as a animal, plant or mineral it will no longer matter what I thought. Life is for living, do it well it is the only chance you will have. Control your own envirnoment and do not worry about someone elses. Situations and circumstances will help you determine your faith or belief, You were given "free choice"
I hope this might open you to the possiblity that you yourself are "guilty" of painting every Christian with the same brush stroke and closing your mind to the reality of what faith in Christ can mean to "everyone" collectively as a "group"

Awesome statement. I know exactly how you view Christians. I was raised Atheist and am now a Bible Thumpin Holy Rollin Tongue Talkin Snake Charmer.

It is not the Christians that I hated. I don't remember an actual Christian ever telling me I was going to hell. Only other Atheist mocking Christians that said it. What was telling me I was going to hell was the Spirit of GOD inside me. Think about it for a second. Sense when do you care what anybody thinks? I know I didn't. But Christians. Those evil self righteous ignorant bigot Nazi bastards that just want all my money. Why did they bug me. The answer is they didn't. GOD did. And worse then GOD was Jesus because all I had to do was to believe. That ate me alive. Well after decades of being miserable I finally gave up. And I got a news flash for you hot shot. I am whole right now. Completely Whole. I am actually happy most the time. The things that used to make me want to go postal now mildly bother me. It's all about Jesus man. You can do flips and spit and scream about it but in the end, Its all about You and Jesus. Hate me or love me I don't care. Its all about you and Jesus.

You said, "Most Atheists have been confronted with Christianity in their life one way or another." This is true for God is a just God and will knock at the walls of EVERY man's heart as He seeks to gain their attention. However, God will never force a man to choose Him, it is the gift of free will that He would never take back, even for a soul's sake lest they be turned into mindless robots loving him because He programmed them to love him. IT IS A CHOICE because He is good and just.

You also said the, "Primary motivation of most Chrisians that I have spoken to as to why I should believe is due to the consequenses of me not believing. Hell, Hell, Hell!"

Well, since you are conducting a study of sorts, let me add to your statistics, accurate as I am sure they must be, and say that I am one believer that was not motivated by the reality of Hell for the unbeliever, because I came to know the Lord, before I understood God's teachings about Hell.

Jesus never forced anyone to choose Him. He simply shared and left everyone with their God given gift of FREE WILL and as a follower of Jesus Christ, living my life as He lived and believing in all of His teachings, (no more and no less) I am called to do the same; Share and leave you with your free will.

Any anger or frustration you have with the message is something you should take up with the Author, because Christ-ians are merely the messengers.

May the God of mercies great... gift you with eyes to see and ears to hear that you might know the love of the Father, our Creator and Almighty God.

Do you know how most Christians see Athiests?

(Sure you may think you know, but you may also be surprised. ;) )

By the way, belief IS a choice. We all have the choice either to believe something or not, or to choose what we believe. We also have the choice to look into a given thing and seek proof, or answers on which to base our belief or lack thereof. Granted we will never know everything, but the pursuit of knowledge is a priviledge we are given. So it's up to us either to go out and pursue it, or do nothing. But in any case, you can't say it's not a choice.

To put it another way, if you desire proof, you can go and look for it. If you desire faith, you can pray and ask God for it, and He will give it. But if you do not, you don't have to. Again it's a choice.

John 6:44
No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

you are right, so long as you don't care about the things of God, you will go on in your lost state.

avoiding Hell is only one point of being a Christian.

John 10:10
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (Jesus)

and you are wrong, the Word of God is powerful

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Keep on reading the Word, and you may find faith yet!

Romans 10:17
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

I'll be praying for you!

That's okay. You're entitled to your opinions and I can understand why you formed them. I don't believe in Jesus because I'm afraid of hell. I love Him.

I pray that God reveal to you His truth, before you leave this planet, and in Jesus name I pray this today, amen.

I don't care what you say. For all the people that deny Christ, you rarely hear about all the people that are accepting Christ everyday. I feel sorry for you. Your heart has been hardened and you have been blinded. Just like it says in God's Word.
