Havent these foolish people read the bible? no where in the bible does it state that mary was a woman of ill repute. it only says that she was a very beautiful woman. she not only became the best friend of jesus, she was the first person to have seen jesus and spoken to him after he rose from the dead.
why do some christian chruches brand this great woman as a whore? is it because they want to keep women from becoming ministers of jesus, or are these people under the impression that all beautiful women are of ill repute?

(i ask this question as i am a proud christian woman)

This is one of those things that always confused me too.

I think it mostly came out of Church propaganda.

Seldom to people really want to do their own research.

If I remember correctly, it came from some translation confusions way back when, where she was confused with a different Mary.

That said, the church (and here I'm referring to the Catholic church, which was the only church around at the time) did not, for some time, bother to correct the error; I believe it was in the 1950's or 60's when they at some point issued an official statement to that effect--but by then, the damage had been done to Mary's reputation.

it actually came from the catholics.
catholics made it up to slay rumors that mary was the wife of jesus.
catholics always change the bible.
