I am 19 y/o and I have had ear infections on and off for the past 4+ months. I have neglected going to the ear doctor, but 4 days ago my ear infections started again, and 2 days after that, i lost hearing in my rt ear, and when someone talks it sounds like i have cotton or something in my ear. I can hardly hear in it. and yesterday when i woke up, my rt eye was swollen, and my rt cheek bone area was swollen. and then last night, i could hardly swallow anything to eat, what do you think the dr will do when i go monday? has anyone else done this?

perhaps a trip to the doctor would be in order... have them look at your tonsils.. even your teeth which can cause infections in the Ear/Nose/Throat. don't mess around with infections that can effect hearing and jaw/cheek bones.

they only put tubes in ears of childern because the reason you put tubes in ears is to allow for drainage and the reason the ear isn't draining properly is because anatomically children have short juxstation tubes it's the tube from the ear to the throat. so say you get water in your ear from swimming or what not it naturally drains into the throat with children it's so small they put tubes into to make it easier to drain. if the water isn't draining it cause infections so that's why some kids got to get tubes and what happens with tubes in the child's ear is that when the child grows the canal between ear and throat gets bigger and the tubes that were put in fall out. point being you don't need tubes by the time your like 12 latest. and they only put them in for chronic ear infections atleast 4-5 per year. you just need good antibiotics oral and drops at the same time probably and then you might need all the wax cleaned out which they can do by syringing the ear with water.

You can get tubes in your ears at any age. You may just have an infection from a tooth, your ear, it could be anything. You just need to go in he knows best. Good luck :)
