i previously wrote about my bird - i threw out some of his toys and now he doesn't seem to leave his closet. I appreciate all the advice i got. I didn't throw out all his toys, i knew that would be tramatic, so i left 3 of his favorites. and replaced the other ones he didn't play with anymore. I think i mis-spoke about that in my previous question. Also, he seems to be bonding with the new stuffed animals more than his old favorites. I tried taking the toys out of the closet and place them across the hall as someone had mentioned. but he still jsut sits in the closet. I'm going to consult the vet about this but she's not available to see him for another week. He recently started getting cataracs also, i'm not sure if it's a mixture of that and the molting and the stuffed animals. He's also very old. I'm just perplexed because i replace his toys every year for the past 19 years, jsut as i did this year and he's never acted like this. thanks agian for the help.

Gee, 19 isn't all that old considering he could go to 35 or so, but the Dr. Said he has eye problems, hmm.. Just like us they go through changes. I am very glad to hear you are bringing him in to the Vet. It really sounds like you did your normal routine with him, but this time it rubbed him wrong. Try moving the toy only a foot closer to the door, then a little closer, take your time, baby steps. I can see you truly are in tune with him and know him very well, don't go hard on yourself, there is no way of knowing what changes may happen in time, hell, I was a lot nicer at 20 myself, but life kicks ya in the bells a few times and you start to get a little crusty. He may just be getting old. But I would give it a try, you also may think about making him hang out with you in another room for an hour a day and see if that doesn't change him a bit, sometimes change is good. Though birds usually don't think so. Do something new in that time, share a cookie (NO CHOCOLATE) or his favorite treat and MAYBE even have a few NEW toys in there with you, a new birdie pile if you will, lol!! Believe me, you are doing a great job, just an unexpected blip in the system. Hang in there, don't give up hope, and maybe he will stroll out of the closet and be a different bird, happens all the time!! LOL!! Ain't that life??

Being you moved the toys out and she stayed in there and you say there is a seeing problem along with the molt I am thinking now that the little birdie is staying in a place where it has always been safe. People being half blind have a large enough brain to know they are pretty safe and don't mind setting in the middle of a room with others around. But a bird might like the closed walls to feel safe. You can never tell, She may not be able to see more then a few feet anymore.
It is so hard to say what the problem maybe so you will just have to be his life long buddie and just be there if you are needed.
