no not safely. they do have a few major differences. a 223 cartridge is 1.760 in length. it is 1.850 on a 222 remington mag. also in 223 it starts to bottleneck at 1.438 and ends at 1.557. in 222 mag it starts at 1.463 and ends at 1.586. other than that the diameter of the head stamp and bore diameter as well as the angle in degrees of the bottleneck are the same. you might get away with doing it if you really had nothing else and it was an emergency. thee 223 case would fit but it would surely disform the case or even blow it apart. i know 223 is alot cheaper but i would stay on the safe side and only shoot the ammo that youre rifle is origanally chambered for.

It "might" fire but as previously posted it's not the safest thing to do. You run the chance of split necks or case separation which couold then lead to gas leakage blowing back toward your face. I have a Remington 700 that was originally chambered in .222 Mag, since the ammo and brass supply is limited you have a few options. 1. Buy a large supply of ammo and or brass and learn to reload your own. 2. Have the rifle barrel set back and rechambered to .223 Remington or 3. Have a new barrel in .223 installed.

NO! Do not to that. You run the risk of blowing up your rifle, or at least damaging it. .222 mag. ammo is harder to find, but it can be found. With a classic round like that you might be better off getting into handloading.
