No more gum popping. Not on planes. Not on subways. Not on busess or movie lines. Let's all just stop doing that. If you must hear yourself make a loud disgusting sound please do it at home. Ok everybody? Can I please see a show of hands on this?

Yes, except that hookers should be allowed to pop their gum when working the street corner.

No - and you are being self-centered and vain. I am not trying to be mean, you are trying to make everyone be like you.

Let me show you what you aren't seeing:

* They are quitting smoking and that has become a less offensive activity to occupy their mouths than a cigarette.

* They are nervous people and it is expressed by popping their gum - as opposed to perhaps bouncing while putting most of their weight on the balls of their feet.

* They have something heavy on their minds and are trying to divert their own attention away from it.

* They are dieting and the gum popping is giving their mouths something to do other than snacking.

* They stutter when they speak, so they blow bubbles to prevent speaking in a public place - which would draw negative glares from insensitive others.

I don't personally chew gum, but am fully aware that many people use that to quit other, less tasteful habits or distract themselves from less pleasant activities or thoughts. Be a little more tolerant of others and stop being so judgemental. There is always more to their story than what you can see or understand. Live and let live and be well.

Hand !!! But really Isis, there are so many people who know how disgusting and interruptive it is, but still insist on annoying others with their childish crap. It just conintues to show the lack of maturity and respect for other people's feelings.

PS. congrats on the 14%. WOW. I'm struggling to improve my 6%. cheers.

haha. I so agree, sitting on the subway and someone popping gum annoys me so bad! I agree they should really wait till they get home to pop it.

It doesn't bother me to hear someone pop gum, but it's not always polite or appropriate so I can agree with you.

I concur! I never understood gum popping! It's pointless and disgusting. My mother does it & it gets on my nerves. I think it's just another of her many ways to torture me unnecessarily!

Sorry, I love it when people pop their gum! It always makes me want to go get some gum, and start popping and snapping it myself! :-))

I also like it when people tap their (pierced) tongue jewelry against their teeth. It fascinates me! Makes me want to go get my tongue pierced, so I can do that, too! (But I simply will NOT give in to this impulse!) :-)) Bad for the teeth!

I'll do that around the time the urban youth begins to speak properly without the use of 'aiiiggghhhttt' 'suuuupppp' and other 'loud disgusting sounds'! :)
