In my school we have a wrestling team and barely anyone signed up. So me and some of my friends signed up, but when he tried out even though we were just as good as the guys, coach said he didn't want us on the team to make the guys "look bad" Why is that?

Ok. Me and my friends tried out for a boys wrestling team because not many guys tried out. We were really good even better than some of the guys that tried out. But the coach told us he didn't want us to play becase we would make the guys "look bad". Me and my friends got so mad. What should we do?

It would be hard to start anothers girls team because not many others schools have girls teams. I just don't know why we can't wrestle with the guys.

The coach's answer is not acceptable. There have been girls who wrestled on high school teams, including one who did very well and made national headlines (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/more/02/06/girl.wrestling.champ.ap/). Here is an article about girls on high school teams: http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/girlwrestler/women.html Note that there are 5,000 girls competing on high school teams in the US or about 2% of the competitors.
You could probably challenge the coach on the issue with the office if you are serious about wrestling.

If you think you are just as good as or even better than the boys on the wrestling team. Go to the Coach and issue a "king of the mat" challenge. You and your girlfriends who share the feelings as you do challenge the boys to a winner make the team wrestling match. Just like as if you were in a real competiton. Seperate the challengers by weight class, and wrestle to 3 points per match. Have an agreement with the coach about whoever wins is the person that makes the team.
For Example. Say you are in the 130lb weight class you would challenge the boy who's in the same weight class. You two would wrestle and if you win the match with the agreement you and the coach made, you would make the team. Should you lose the same rules of the agreement would apply. And so on and so on. Thats a more civilized way of handling things instead of calling the news making it a national issue or having someone removed of his or her administration position because of bad feelings towards the selection process. If you truly are as good as you say you are then you will have no problem making the wrestling team.
Good luck on your quest to make the team

Unfortunately, society has programmed some men to think this way. I was turned down for the football team in school even though the coach told me I was first girl HE had seen that could play football. He said it tends to make the guys play differently or "not as rough" (and lose) and it makes the other teams give your team a really hard time. I was bummed but now there are all kinds of girls playing football!
Maybe he doesn't want you and your friends on the team because you were actually better (not just as good as) than the guys he's got and it would make HIM look bad.

I think that the coach doesnt want you there because if you say that you were as good as the guys that is most likely that he is afarid that you and your friends will upstage the guys at a sport that has always been known as a mens sport, maybey you should report him and try and get a girls team started up!!! A lot of are afraid of women that show they have power and a lot of the time they get embrassed and upset because they think that they are the only ones that can dominate the sport and they arent!

when a girl in on a guys team, it's just kinda weird. girls are usually associated as weaker, so to have a girl on the team may make the guys feel out of place. another reason could be that wrestling is traditionally a guys sport, so it's sorta out of place to have girls in it....unless you could fix that stereotype and be the founder of a girls wrestling team at your school!

You might approach the administration about starting a girls team, though. You might not get to compete until another school has a girls team, though.

go to the princeple and come with homework although the NCAA
rules say that if the s team is canceled because there is not enough s or the coach doesn't just want a s team(or there is none at all!) the coach is legally obligated(i hope i spelled that right)
to let you try out and give you a fair chance
although somehow you got to agree with the first answer!

cuz a chick that can wrestle a guy to a pin is embarassing for the guy. plus if you chicks are cute the guys may have a problem keeping something else pinned down if you know what i mean.
