My husband said that one of the European players has said that the Americans play for America, whereas the Europeans play for each other, which makes them better team players. Nothing wrong with the Americans as individual players...

it is due to complacency, there was a time when the americans couldnt be beaten in the ryder cup during the nicklaus watson era, there was also the europeans seve, faldo era. many sports teams go through this sort of golden era. just take a look at west indies cricket during the 80's. all eras like this have to come to an end for 1 reason or another. wether it be complacency, ageingor whatever. europe are going through a golden era in the ryder cup right now. i hope it wont end but it has to at some point because the americans will eventually find the beating of us.

Based on World Rankings, the European team has an average of about # 22 & the US rank about # 30.

According to world rankings, the Europeans are simply better players. Plus Tiger can't play 4ball or 4somes.

The Europeans also play on a tougher circuit - one more time I have to say we all need a world circuit, including US players, including the US open & Masters & then just maybe things will equal out again.

Or we could go back to just the UK versus the USA - but wouldn't THAT be embarassing if the US lost that too :-)

The pros on the Ryder cup team are used to playing as individuals not focused on team work...

Because they are all selfish, self-centred, egotistical, war-mongering b*stards - they just don't do the team thing. Yes - Tiger Woods is probably the finest golfer to have ever picked up a golf club - but this is nothing in a team of egos with bimbo wives.

They're not used to playing foursomes, or fourballs so much for that matter. It's not really that the USA is poor at it, it's just Europeans have more experience from the juniors right up to the top level in that format.

You play your best golf when your happy and the American team is not happy because it isn't winning and hasn't got a team spirit like the Europeans

Because the weather is so crappy in Europe, and the Euros play in that slop all the time.
