As a Mom of a cheerleader and a cheerleading coach, i am just as concerned about grades as anyone else.

What you need to ask yourself is how much time do you devote to homework and studying each night? Is it more than 1 hour?

If no, and you are still making 88/89 then I would encourage you to go ahead and try out for cheerleading. cheerleading is demanding, but not exhausting.

Let your Mom know that you intend to keep up your studies, and that you will drop the squad if your grades faulter at all. You can do this....just apply yourself.

Good Luck!

Is it possible that the grades thing is an excuse? If she knows that try-outs are in two weeks and you don't have anything (quizzes, homework, ect) that could raise them in that time, then why say that? Any good work or comments you get from school from now until then, make it a point to show her or let her know. You need to try and not give her a reason to say that your grades won't rise or might drop after getting on the squad. In fact, she may be really worried that getting on the squad will affect your grades. If your squad has a minimum GPA requirement, be sure to tell your mom that. Stress to her that they would kick you off for going lower than the minimum. As I said, if this is her reason then do your best to take it away from her. That's what I would do.

Don't panic. An 'A' is excellent, A 'B' is good, a 'C' is average. Your grades are above average. Try different study habits if you want to get your grades up.
