I answered your "Am I forgiven" question with the stop smoking answer......S I will answer THIS question about "forgiveness"..
Sorry for the mix up..The awesome thing is IF we truly mean in our hearts that we have accepted Christ..
One of the results of forgiveness is that God doesn't keep a record of our sins, He does not hold them against us. Because the blood of Christ covered our sins ..The bad thing is we soon find out that PEOPLE DO keep records of the wrongs we have done, and when people fail us, we have the need to be accepted by people, so we turn away from God...I did this already...Learn from me...Dont go there!!

You will still "feel" guilty about many things..But your being saved isnt based on how you feel....I dont believe you grasp yet the full undestanding of God's forgiveness..He has promised that He will never stop forgiving you no matter what, if you abide in Him.
That doesnt mean now you have a liscense to go out and purposely sin either..When we accept Christ a process begins, it is called santification...which literally means the continuing process of growing in divine grace..Welcome to the family of God

I will not lecture you on the negetve effects of smoking because we all know what they are. I believe you need to pray about this and if you feel convicted, be obedient. Otherwise we are all works in progress and God is forgiving. I too am a smoker and a Christian. I came to christ around a year ago. I don't think it will keep me from getting to heaven, but I think I would like to set a better example for others. Don't give up. It's easy to want to throw in the towel. Things won't suddenly become easy.

God nor Jesus does not judge. Everyone has there own free will. That is up to you decide if you would like to quit smoking.
I would look at the positives and negatives and then decide.

Keep this in mind Smoking does kill you. Sense you are choosing to smoke then you are slowly killing yourself. Killing Yourself is suicide. Second hand smoke has been said to be worse than smoking itself which can inflict a medical problem on someone that can kill them. Killing someone else intentional. If you choose to smoke, knowing that it is dangerous, is murder.
Now these are my opinions on the facts and for you to decide what is right or wrong.
Do you kill yourself and others or you do not. That is the question.

Yes you should.

My answer is based on more then just religious reasons.

Congratulations on your decision to accept Christ. Now the most important thing to remember is that you are not going to be perfect from now on as I am sure you have bad habits to break. Don't get discouraged if you do slip back into the old ways. Remember you have to crawl before you walk.

May the Lord bless you and give you the strength to to walk the straight and narrow.

congratulations! welcome to the family. You may not have to stop smoking, but it'd be a good idea. part of the agreement of being a Christian is realizing a) that God is smarter than us and wants what's best for us, and since smoking is really bad for you, I'm sure He would like you to quit. and b) your life belongs to Jesus now, in a good sense. He takes care of his believers, but they should be open to being used by Him. there's a verse that says our bodies are His temple (since he lives in our hearts), and I doubt you'd smoke inside a church. Also, if your body is meant to be used by Him, defacing it (also His creation, btw) reduces the amount He can use you, b/c it's going to make you sick, die early, have less money to spend on other things, etc.
I know quittin a habit is hard, but there are many reason, both physical and spiritual, why quitting smoking would be good for you. and if it's what God wants, He can help you have enough strength to do it. Just ask Him.

I couldn't stop on my own. I accepted Christ and my language cleaned up without any effort on my part. My sister had the same experience. But with smoking I just quit and quit and quit. I was so disgusted with myself. Finally one day I was in the park with my son (about 4 years old) I looked up at a beautiful cloud filled sky and heard God say, you will forget what it is like to want a cigarette. That was about 30 years ago. My son is grown with his own child now. God did for me what I could not do for myself.

Well that depends on how you accept Jesus into your heart. And no, I am not being a smarty pants. I would think it depends on the religion you did to do it. Like if you're Catholic, you can smoke because you can go to confession. If you're Lutheran, they're laid back and don't really mind if you smoke.Bapist, do anything they want too.

But from my knowledge of the bible, you're not supposed to pollute your temple meaning your body.

You don't necessarily have to stop smoking. I'm a Christian, and I don't smoke, but I might decide to start at some point. The standard scriptural arguments against smoking are based on what I believe to be misinterpretations of two passages in 1 Corinthians. In the third chapter of this letter, Paul is trying to demonstrate the folly of the divisions in that particular church. One would say, "I follow Paul." Another, "I follow Apollos." Some, "I follow Cephas," which was the name given to Peter by Jesus at Caesarea Philippi. In other words, the church was splitting between factions that wanted to follow one particular teacher.

It is in this context that Paul poses the question, "Do you not know that you (plural in the original Greek) are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you (plural in the Greek)? If anyone destroys God temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you (plural in the Greek) are that temple." In this passage, Paul is warning the individuals within the Church not to destroy the Church-- the whole group of believers, which group is God's temple-- by creating divisions. Anyone who seeks to destroy the people of God will be destroyed by God. The argument that is often made against smoking from this passage is that smoking destroys the temple of God, but in this case, Paul is referring to the people of God corporately being God's temple. I think this is pretty evident from what I've said.

In the sixth chapter, Paul is addressing the issue of sexual sin in the congregation. He has just emphasized that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God, giving a list of the sort of people who are barred from the kingdom. However, he proceeds to reassure those who would otherwise despair that change is not only possible, but achieved in Christ: "such were some of you, but you were washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."

It is in this context that Paul questions the Corinthians again: "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. So glorify God in your body." The argument made against smoking from this text is that smoking defiles the individual Christian's body, which is God's temple. However, those making this argument seem to overlook the preceding verse: "Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body." Since every other sin is outside the body, it would seem that smoking does not defile the temple of the Holy Spirit.

I think that what I've said so far establishes that the usual arguments made against smoking have no real scriptural support. Now I want to provide you with four general principles for Christian ethics. The first two come from the same passage we were just investigating. In verse 12, Paul points out first that, while all things may be lawful for the Christian, not all things are helpful. Secondly, he remarks that, while all things are lawful, he refuses to be enslaved to anything. In the twenty-third verse of the tenth chapter of this same letter, Paul notes that, while all things are lawful, not all things build people up. Whenever you find yourself wondering whether something is sin, pose these three questions to yourself, and you will be well on your way to discerning the matter: Is it helpful? If I do this, will it be an easy thing to be free of in the future? Does it build other people up? If the answer to all of these questions is "no," I wouldn't bother doing it.

The final principle is derived from Romans 14:23. If you think that what you're doing is wrong, than you need to listen to your conscience. Whatever is not from faith is sin. If you don't feel right about something, then it's wrong for you to do it. This doesn't necessarily mean that the act in itself is right or wrong. It's a matter of principle: don't go against your conscience. I feel like this needs a lot more qualifications and clarifications, but unfortunately, I don't have the time to make them presently. I hope this is helpful.

I know that many people would try to lump smokin w/ drinking and sexual realations w/ people who arent married to.....but i truthfully think that if your not smokin crack or marawajuna, then its dosent matter. My grandfather has been filled w/ Jesus for the last 40 years and he has smoked the whole way. I dont think that it will put you in jeporady of losing your realationship to God. But I would really try to stop smokin, not becuase you are saved now but because it is very unhealthy. But I am sure God dosent liek it because in the Bible it says we need to be excellence for God, well try to be excellence, after all no one is perfect.......
