you most certainly are right, my dads a very mad driver (fast and always pulling out on people)
My mum is like a rally driver 50mph in thirty speed limits, buts the brakes on hard every now and then and throws you about so much after 15 minutes you want to throw up all the while when driving she keeps saying sorry, sorry, sorry
can not believe these other people above me are drivers!!

I imagine the author of this question is nowhere near 55. I would also like to suggest the author remember this question for the rest of his life and then answer it when he reaches this age. I very much doubt he will call himself a doddering old fart or codger.
Please note I have used the masculine pronoun to reply to this question as I cannot imagine a woman asking it.
I would like to pose a question. Does anyone think that young hotheads- mainly male - under the age of 25 should have a speed regulator fitted on their car so that they are unable to be a menace to the rest of us doddering car users? Another question. Why do you think insurance for young people is so high while insurance for old codgers who have lots more money is relatively low? Is is because young people are a greater risk than older people and as such a greater danger for the rest of society?
By the way I am 46, a father of 2 (showing off my virility here) and well on the way to becoming an old codger. See you on the road.

This doddering old fart is 57, been driving since 1969 (thats 37 years in case you can't count) and still has a clean licence and never been in a crash. I've earned my place on the roads, have you?

Over 55!!
That's so ageist!! What are you? Like 12 or something?
As long as you are a safe and compent driver you're good to go.
After a certain age - there's probably value in a review of some sort. Though, much as I hate to admit it - having seen a lot of the driving out there - there's probably value in us all haveing a regular test of some description - but I didn't actually say that.
You also have to ask yourself as to why older people get cheaper insurance premiums. Maybe it's because they have less accidents because they ARE SAFER DRIVERS.

I think an annual test, for everyone, would be a good idea. There are a lot of doddering old farts on the roads, but probably just as many idiot hoodies in Golfs and brainless blondes in M3/M5's.

Not to sure they get up to much speed to ever be that much of a hazard on our roads, but seriously I do believe that anyone over the age of 50 say should be made to by law have a medical check up on three essentials of driving, EYES, EARS and REACTIONS, if they fail this it should be an automatic driving ban, I don't care how long they have been driving or how much experience they have I want people on the roads who can see, hear, and have quick reactions to emergency situations.

Peoples abilities and concentration do decrease with age, maybe they should be required to take a refresher course or something to
keep their abilities up to par.
