wow some people on here are just mean.It's not just being shy it's social anxiety and it's not something you can just get over, it takes a long time to be able to talk to people or even be around them.I know because whenever I'm around too many people I strart breathing really hard and feel like I'm going to pass out.I's kinda like being closterphobic-I don't think I spelled that right but anyway you get the idea just hang in there.

Try the "magic word? technique. I used to have to teach adults in various classes. I am quiet to the point of being shy. I would have a specific word, that I would say to myself, when I'd be about to start my instructions. This word was to tell me to get into an "up" attitude, and I would use it as motivation. My word was "showtime". If I was with someone, I could say to them, "Well, it's showtime." They would think that I was making conversation, where I was gearing myself up.

That is difficult to overcome actually.
I have the same problem as you have.
You need to gain more self-confidence ( don't know how)
and you should believe in yourself that you are like other people.

you just kind of have to force yourself to do it. I am also painfully shy, and nobody knows it, they all think I am the life of the party. just put yourself out there and remember, most people will not even remember you the next day, and you are worrying for nothing.
