COULD YOU TELL US WHAT GRADE AND SUBJECT DO YOU TEACH AND WHAT STATE.

HE HAD TO FIND A TEACHING POSITION OUT OF STATE LIKE MOST OKLAHOMA TEACHERS DO WHEN THEY GRADUATE. SO WE MOVED HERE ON AUG. 1, 400 MILES FROM WHERE WE LIVED AND NOT KNOWING A SOUL. YES THEY ASSIGNED HIM A MENTOR, ONE WHO SEEMS TO BE SO OVERWHELMED TO REALLY BE THERE FOR HIM.

THIS IS WHY I CAME TO POST THIS HERE FOR SOMEONE WHO MIGHT BE THERE FOR HIM TO BOUNCE IDEAS OFF OF.

PLEASE, REQUESTING SOME HELP HERE. MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN CALLED IN FOR A MEETING BECAUSE HE ACCIDENTLY REPORTED A WRONG STUDENT FOR A WRITE UP. TWO STUDENTS WITH SAME LAST NAMES AND DUE TO HIS VISION [YES HE IS GOING TO GET NEW GLASSES ONCE THE INSURANCE KICKS IN] HE COULDN'T SEE WHICH ONE HE MARKED. ONCE HE REALIZED HIS MISTAKE HE DID REPORT IT.

The best thing that happened to me for classroom management was : Tools for Teaching by Fred Jones and
The first days of school by Harry Wong as well as teaching with Love and Logic by Jim Fay.
They all have websites as well as books.

Everyone remembers their management difficulties when they were starting (and those we still struggle with), I'm sure he could find someone in his building or in a neighboring school to talk to. He's got to know the lay of the land, though. In every school there are people you can talk to and honestly admit you have problems, and get some help, and then, there are those who have gone to the dark side.

If he's still in touch with anyone from his student teaching seminar, or if he had a good relationship with his co-operating teacher from st. teaching, those would be good sources as well.

In IN, first year teachers are assigned mentors and coaches to help them out withwhatever issues they have, and there's a state program to certify experienced teachers as mentors.

middle school world languages, 30 + years, and still working on my management skills (like all teachers!)

YOU KNOW YOUR EDUCATION DEGREE ISNT WORTH THE PAPER IT WAS PRINTED ON IF YOUR PROGRAM DIDNT INCLUDE SUPERVISED OBSERVATION AND TEACHING PRACTICE IN A REAL SCHOOL WHERE YOU WERE ABLE TO MAKE CONNECTIONS WITH EXPERIENCED TEACHERS WHO COULD PROVIDE ADVICE AND MENTORSHIP.
