Old cat is a neutered male, 6 yrs old. Have had him for 6 months. Getting another cat, also neutered male, is about 2 yrs old.

Not an easy question. It depends on the cats temperament. My friend had a male for 6-7 years and got another male 1-2 years. both neutered and they get along great. They sleep together. I would lock one in a room so they can smell each other for a while before I put them together.

(If you can you may need to have separate litter boxes for a while too.)

Usually male/female pairs work out best, but since both of the cats are neutered, they should get along just fine. It also depends on the particular cats personality as to how they'll get along. We fostered a neutered adult male for a while, and we had another neutered male in the household. They were both very laid back cats and were sleeping together by day 2. Usually the adjustment period takes longer, but every situation is different. Good luck, I'm sure they'll do fine.

My male 11 years and neutered when he was not even old enough to know he was a male will not tolerate another male cat or kitten in our home or yard. However he loves the girls. A male female combination is the best. Two males will fight over territory. One of two things may happen. They will fight constantly if indoors and spend a lot of time hiding from each other. If they are outside one will run the other off.

All cats are different. Some tend to be more open to new potential playmates and such. Your cat is an older cat, depending on his previous lifestyle, your cat might less accepting if he's not shared his "terriotory" with other felines.
As long as male cats are nuetered, they have a better chance of getting along.
Introduce them slowly, don't push them towards each other.
Some natural agression may appear from your older cat, and lots of sniffing from the both.
It is however usually better if you mix the sexes of new cats to male and female, as long as one or both are fixed. Male and female cats tend to get along a lot better. Also all female cats generally are open to other cats, only a few are disenchanted.
Also beware that your 6 yr. old can become depressed once you bring a new feline into the home. Signs of depression in cats usually begin with not eating.

Sounds like it should be a go. It is more difficult sometimes with two females.

You can get some good tips at www.littlebigcat.com. Dr. Jean Hovfe has an article there titled "Cat to Cat Introductions".

Good luck and kudos to you for taking an "older" cat into your home!

I consider lots of the solutions indexed. because you've a male cat, he will immediately study that the girls, who're older and performance been there longer, have the run of the domicile. i ought to in reality advise isolating them at nighttime or once you're at artwork and are unable to video exhibit them. otherwise, save them jointly and save an huge eye on them. when we delivered our new male into the domicile, our lady growled and hissed at him for the first week till she were given used to his fragrance. be confident to bathe the cats you've had longer with interest so as that they do no longer change into jealous of the kitten. how you should attempt it really is to pay more advantageous interest to them at the same time as the kitten is interior the room. That way they're going to understand he's not there to thieve their limelight. supply them time, as a lot as a month, to change. they're going to all benefit a mutual appreciate for another. issues receives more advantageous acceptable once he's neutered. solid luck!!

THIS COULD BE A VERY DIFFICULT AS ALL CATS OF ANY SEX ARE LONERS AND DISLIKE ANY CHANGES IN THEIR ROUTINE--DO NOT JUST PUT THEM TOGETHER AND HOPE FOR THE BEST-- KEEP THEM SEPERATE FOR A TIME-- OBSERVE THE REACTION-- GOOD LUCK--- I THINK YOU WILL NEED IT
