There is no aerial in this flat but there is a sky dish and connection so I need to get a skybox, however I don't want to pay a monthly subscription with sky cos I don't watch it that much. I was looking on ebay but got very confused!! Do I need a viewing card...all connections are there so its just a matter of plugging it in and it'll work...also is a skybox and a digibox the same?! Thank you everyone for your help!

A skybox won't work without a current viewing card so second hand boxes are not much use. A better option would be a free-view box or TV with free-view built in. Alternatively, you could just get a little set top aerial whilst you research your best options. These give a good picture generally (once you get them in the correct position) and are relatively cheap. The main drawback is the limited choice of channels but if you don't watch much TV that may not be a problem for you.

A Sky dish alone is of no use unless you pay a subscription. Better off getting a Freeview box. TV with built in Freeview has two problems, if it breaks down you have no Freeview and no TV. Lastly Sky Boxes and Digiboxes could be the same, Freeview Boxes or Pay-as-you-view boxes are different.

What you can do is buy a second hand sky box and a viewing card as a one off payment and you get channels that are available on freeview plus a few more

Erm, if we all could get sky for free without paying.....do you think people would pay them for a subscription? Even if you bought one from ebay, who says it will work?
