Depends on the tank size and MPG, city or hiway. My truck has gone 25 miles with the light on but I was sweating bullets before I got gas.
Get a couple gallons of gas in a gas can, take it with you and actually run the car out of gas to see how far you can go.

rule of thumb when the gas light comes on you have about 6-10 miles to find a gas station depending on how you drive a heavy foot will get you less mileage

The low gas light generally means two gallons, so take your MPG and multiply by 2. It's really not good to go below half a tank though because it's hard on the fuel pump.

1/8 of gas tank, so if the car average 400 miles on full tank, then it drive 50 miles with gas light on

Oh I do this all the time and my husband gets so mad at me! I have a 2000 Ford Taurus and I can go about 35 miles. I think I have a 15 gallon tank. I think I have about 2 gallons left in the tank once the light comes on. You have to live life on the edge, it's fun!

more than 20 miles but try not to , is not very good for the engine to run out of gas, the reserve is 1 gallon and corolla gives you about 25 mpg beside when you car knows is low it uses it more wisely meaning it will problably last you longer i get about 30 in my tc and i have a bigger engine that is a 2.4 versus your 1.8

When you see the light, it means you have a gallon left. So, theoretically, you should be able to go one gallons worth, which if you get 30-35mpg then you should be able to go about 30-35 miles.
