It (supposedly) took the historical shakyamuni buddha "countless aeons" i.e. millions of years to become enlightened, but then traditional buddhist cosmology did not regard the universe as beginning with the big bang, but that it was a series of big bangs and crunches (each one lasting billions and billionas of years so in that sense theres no shortage of time). I think the real answer is no one knows

The state of "Bodhi" means enlightenment or, alternately, one who has attained intellectual and ethical perfection by human means. A Buddha is simply one who has attained bodhi.
There have been many buddhas and there are expected to be many more.
A Dianetic Release or Clear is basically equivilent to this state.
So a technique now exists ( since 1950 ) to achieve this state well within one lifetime.
This due in part to our recent advances of scientific knowledge applied to the rehabilitation of the spiritual nature of man.

By the way there is no such thing as an "average" spirit.
The only limits to our potential are the ones we have agreed to, ourselves.

Traditions and tales aside, we simply cannot know if any have ever become Buddhas or Bodhisattva's, or even if such beings exist. Still, the concern for future outcomes in this question is very un-Buddha, whose precepts dealt with focusing ourselves on right motives and actions in the present moment out of which ultimate outcomes will see to themselves. Nevertheless, the article below from Yogi C.M. Chen on becoming a Bodhisattva may be of interest to you.

It could take dozens, hundreds or thousands of lives to become a highly evolved soul.
We cant say average spirit because not everyone is on same level of growth but we can find many kindred spirits on the same wavelength as us.

I'm not sure, but along the same subject, according to Christian psychic Edgar Cayce, Jesus became a christ in 10 incarnations. However, according to Cayce, Jesus was the first "son of God", i.e. Adam, so he had a head start on everyone else.

Personally I think a thousand lives wouldn't come close to enough time for absolute perfection.

the answer to this question can not be expressed adequately in human terms or understanding,we perceive the universe from a human perspective thinking human experience is universal experience ,its not.it takes numerous lifetimes to achieve self realization totally depending on the purity of the mind and state of evolution of the soul

unfortunately, there is not a number -- it's not like reaching a level in a video game......it depends on how fast you develop your enlightenment. Focus on today. where are you now? never stop growing towards the light. xo
