It is possible to stop completely, but picking up just one should cause you to stop and think about your "WHY". Why are you wanting to light it, what triggered your "need" to smoke and what inspired you to quit in the first place? Addictions to anything are dangerous, if you were addicted to heroin, cocaine or other drugs, and got down to "just once" per day" why would you stop there? What triggered your want, were you angry? upset, sad, drinking alcohol? Perhaps you wanted to 'reward' yourself? Check yourself for the deep reason for wanting to smoke just one. To get completely tabacco free I would suggest using some of the lower dose patches sold over the counter, I used them very successfully. Also make rules for smoking around you for the long term--believe it or not, as bad as smoking smells it will smell good to you once you stop, so try to stay out of smoking areas, do not allow smoking in your home, for the oral thing, chew some gum,
or I have even had some friends recommend using cinnamon sticks in replacement for the hand to mouth thing, then after you have decided to not buy anymore smokes, DON'T. Do not compromise your own thoughts and feelings (let alone health) in order to make some company richer than you or I could imagine.
The other thing to consider is how nice your home will smell when you stop smoking. Be sure to air it out well and try to stay away from commercial air fresheners as they only coat the inside of your nasal passages letting you think the odor is gone, when in fact you just can't smell it. Quitting anything addictive is not easy and without it's challenges, a supportive mate or group will help ease your uncomfortable times, they will pass with time, but you need to talk about what is really going on and why you want to relapse. Good luck to you--success is right around the corner.

Yes, it is normal. Whenever you get more nicotine in your system than your body is used to, it causes nausea. If you are determined to keep smoking, just smoke until you get dizzy, then put it out and take a break. Next time you smoke it should take one or two more puffs to get dizzy. Soon you will be able to smoke a whole cigarette without any problem. Except that you will probably be addicted then!

I would say that you can use those nicotine patchs...or you can quit and that means quitting cold turkey and not having no cigs...even if you have a craving for them. My dad quit cold turkey and it was hard for him up till now, he quit a year ago Sept. 28th of this year. Its hard...but you get headaches and stuff cuz u have a nicotine craving. Its well worth the headaches in the end, cuz u know ur done. I know, its gonna be hard...but thats about the only way to quit.
I hope this is good enough info for you. And Good Luck!

think of people you look up to that don't smoke. When you want a smoke think of them and the good health you are rebuilding in your body...........if you smoke 1 a day you are using that as a treat. Smoke in lungs is no treat. chew gum

If your need for cigarettes is due to your body using them to control a low blood sugar imbalance (it is possible - your doctor can check you), then by understanding and controlling the low blood sugar condition prior to totally stopping, it will make it easier on your mind and body to quit smoking that last one.
Congratulations, by the way, on coming this far.
There is basic info on low blood sugar at www.hufa.org.
Best wishes for your continued success.

Good for you for wanting to stop! Believe it or not, being hypnotized got my dad to stop smoking cold turkey. I hardly believed it myself, but he did! He had smoked about a pack, or more, per day for over twenty years, then one day... no more! No cravings or anything. Might be worth a shot. Good luck.

my dad quit, and he 'told' himself he could have another one anytime he wanted, right after he put one in Jesus' mouth! He quit successfully!
Anytime I felt the urge to smoke I just told myselt - "but I don't smoke" retrain your thinking to a non-smoker, NOT an ex-smoker - but a NON-SMOKER.

It is very difficult to stop smoking, because your organism has used to! You have to stop it, because it is very bad for your health! Your try is remarkable, but you have to make yourself busy and dont think of smoking!
