to reply to the idiot who thinks i am not a good pet owner, when a neighbour has a collie cross lab with nothing on his mind but the girl in heat next door the six foot fence means nothing, i am good owner which is why i am not allowing an eight month old puppy to give birth and she will be spayed after her first season.

I had the same thing happen several years ago. Only she got with a male much larger than her. (She got out by accident.) I got her the shot and she had absolutely no side effects.

They have made so many advances in medicine over the years that in my opinion it would be safe provided you get her the shot NOW!

Be more careful in the future! She will come into heat about every six months now. If you never want her to have puppies get her spayed. If you want puppies be careful with her until she is at least 2 years old.

Good Luck! :-D

Canine Abortion....are you kidding me?!?

Great....another thing to help people get away with not properly taking care of their animals. You should keep a much closer eye on her while she's in heat....and if you don't plan on showing her or breeding her... get her SPAYED!

********ADDITION********
I would have never left an 8 month old pup in her first heat unattended in the back yard. You were very lucky that it had been the collie/lab mix from next door that jumped the fence and not some other aggressive male that could have seriously injured your dog.

The only side effect, if you want to call it a side effect, is that it is almost like starting their heat over and will extend their heat usually by about a week. All the shot is is hormones, so it is a perfectly natural substance.

my only question is why are you waiting till after her first heat to spay her? you can do that before you know...
I am against abortion of any kind, feel sorry for puppies if there are any, I understand your concern though. just my opinion.

how do you know if she is actually pregnant if it was only 2 days ago? i'd leave it a while, discuss it with your vet if you're really worried.
