Though Abraham did not know it, God by him performed a drama of tremendous significance to us. This was summed up by Jesus Christ nineteen centuries later when he said: “God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that every one exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.” This Son of God, Jesus Christ, was the One foreshadowed by Abraham’s beloved son Isaac and by that male sheep that was offered up as Isaac’s substitute. The Son of God became indeed the Lamb of God for mankind’s salvation

Abraham was so willing to do what God wanted him to do that he did this. Abraham had so much love, trust, faith and hope in the Lord that he did what he was told. The Lord saw that Abraham was so willing to serve him that he spared Isaac from sacrifice. It was really a test from God. I honestly do not think I could offer my son as a sacrifice the way Abraham did.

The test was whether Abraham had total trust in God.

Abraham (Abram) became very wealthy by prostituting his wife (Sarah/Sarai). It's probable that Isaac wasn't really his kid and he was holding him for ransom.

And, Isaac's real daddy came up with the ransom and saved poor little Isaac's life. You have to be careful when you interpret all those "God did its" in the bible.

In addition to "testing" Abraham, He also taught us that human sacrifice is NEVER acceptable to God. Human/child sacrifice was common among other nations, but was forbidden to God's chosen people.

He trusted the Lord. He had faith. The Lord was trying his heart to see if he was willing to give all that he had. The Lord says that he tries the heart. (kjv only)

Actually Prophet Ismael (Peace Be Upon Him) was taken to be sacrificed by Prophet Abraham (Peace Be Upon Him) Not Prophet Isaac (Peace Be Upon Him). Peace to All.

Yes, God "testing" his subjects (even though he's supposed to be omniscient).

God is an a$$hole.
