Actually, I got mine out in late August and it wasn't so bad. The pain wasn't a problem because you'll get vicadin and if you are uncomfortable with vicadin, motrin works okay too. It's more uncomfortable than anything because you will bleed for several hours and be numb for most of the day. However, if you sleep a lot and keep yourself distracted with movies and such, you'll be fine! It's not a big deal getting them out and you'll do fantastic! Good luck and take advantage of the down time. Also, I got them out on a Thursday and took Friday and Saturday off from work...(I got all 4 out)...and I actually could've worked on Friday. I was going out by Saturday. Good luck!

Well i recently had 6 teeth extracted, just a little over 2 weeks ago, 4 of which were wisdom teeth (2 were impacted so they were cut out) and i can honestly say if you go to an oral surgeon like i did and get put to sleep there will be no pain what so ever. I was fast asleep in a matter of minutes and when i woke up it was all over, there was gauze in my mouth and quite a bit of blood, but no pain! when i got home i took my meds and changed the gauze and applyed frozen peas to my jaw line and cheeks. The only pain i felt from the extractions was a headache on day 2 and 3, but nothing the meds didn't fix. I had quite a lot of bruising and swelling, but no actual pain and by day 4 the swelling had gone away completely.

So do not worry at all and my advise to you is if you are as scared as i was then if you need to get your wisdom teeth out, don't do them one by one, do them all the same time, that way it's all over and done with and you never have to think about it again. I was told that i need to extract my bottom two because they were on a angle and were pushing my other teeth out of shape, but my dentist said in the future i would probably have to have the top two removed, so i decided to have them all taken care off and it works out cheaper, cause you only have to pay the dentist to put you to sleep once.

It all depends on the tooth. If they are impacted ( laying sideways) then they can be a little bit more work to get out. If they are not fully errupted, then they will have to be cutt out as well, which will cause you a little more discomfort and swelling. Usully the maxillary (top) wisdoms will come out fairly easy, even when cutt out. The bottoms are what cause you to be sore, they tend to be a pain to extract. When cutting out all we do is make an incision, take the drill and section the tooth, then remove it in peices. Just remeber you will be numb so you wont feel a thing. Plus they will give you pain pills.

When people ask for encouragement about getting their wisdom teeth out, I like to share this story about my three children.

I removed two of my older daughter's wisdom teeth at 2:00 in the afternoon and told her to go home and lie down until dinner time. Before I got home, she had already left for the mall! I was rather angry, because I figured that she'd be moaning all night long and asking me what to do for the pain. Much to my happy surprise, she seemed just fine. She said that she waited until the numbness started to go away and she felt pretty good, so she decided to get up and go.

Same thing with my son. We were actually headed home from a drum lesson and he asked if we could stop in the office to check out the sore place in his mouth. It turned out to be an erupting wisdom tooth. He asked if I felt like taking it out right then, so I did. (I was afraid he might change his mind if he thought about it overnight.) His mom didn't even know he had a wisdom tooth taken out until he had to take the gauze out of his mouth to eat dinner. His uppers were both kind of difficult and he had trouble healing with one of them (sinus involvement), but that didn't last for more than 3 or 4 days.

With my third child, I took her to the oral surgeon, because the roots were sort of close to the nerve and _I_ didn't want to be the one to cause her any trouble if things got difficult. She had nitrous oxide and little bit of iv sedation and had all four removed at once. I wanted to get her right home, but she asked me to stop off at the mall before we went home. She insisted that she was okay. Instead of going home and lying down, she walked through the mall. Yes, she was biting on her gauze packs (in the mall!), but still she was a lot more active than I would recommend. She had no trouble at all healing. I think she went out that night, too. (It was 1999, so I don't remember the details.)

I'm not saying that they are ALL like this, but there are wisdom teeth and then there are w*!`S^D@m TEETH!!! I always say that wisdom teeth (and root canals, by the way) are like teenagers. At least 90% are no trouble at all, but everybody talks about the bad ones.

A lot of times , people experience pain with different things. you might feel it or you may not. different people tolerate ( handle) pain in a different way. in general, if any dentist can numb your teeth and all the surrounding tissue very well. you should not feel anything. however, there might be a lot more nerves to numb in your case. make sure that you make this procedure for you as comfortable as possible. talk to your dentist , and don't worry things will be OK . wish you best of luck.

with a good dentist you will not have any pain at all or very little if any. i had two out this year and they were both quick and actually pain free for me. after the procedure just follow the instructions. no pain during the procedure but afterwards you may have pain but that can be controlled with medication. also there may be swelling but that can also be controlled by using ice packs. but again follow all instructions and you should be fine.

It doesn't hurt as much as reading this poor English. It does hurt but it hurts worse if you wait until you are older. If you decide to keep them in forever, there could be a complication (mouth too crowded) later that they may have to be taken out.

All it takes is a good Dentist? then the only discomfort is, most of the time you won't be able to open your jaw (all the way open) for a few days.
It is quite uncomfortable for a few days. Good luck and try not to think about it.
