Are teachers the only profession that allows a substitute? Why and what other job do you think should have substitutes come to work for them?

Football is not a job, not to me at least.

Football is still not a job to me, while they may be good at what they do, they are glorified and overrated and grotesquely overpaid, and in my opinion that goes for all so called "pro" sports.

Yes, playing pro football or any pro sport IS a job. If you go up to any professional player and tell them that their profession ISN'T a job, most likely you'll get a black eye. Pro sports, especially football, are dangerous and you're putting your body in harm's way for 15 years of your life.

Pro sports is the other job I can think of that involves a substitute. Some other jobs have people on call to replace those who are out sick. My friend was a busboy at a restaurant at the San Diego Zoo before he became a counselor for troubled youth. He would be given "on call" days where he'd have to wait for a phone call at 9 a.m. to see if he was off or had to fill in for someone.

There are companies that hire out "day labor".
These people are listed in the companies system for the skills they possess. if another company temporarily loses an employee due to sickness or maternity, then the subs come in until the original comes back. This happens in construction firms, especially when contracts are signed for completing projects by a certain time
