Time to reorganize priorities...
From supper on... the house should be quiet... the dining room table cleared and set up for homewordk with kids bathed, dressed for bed and doing homework till 9PM...then off to bed or further reading in bed. Make them a snak duirng this time if necessary (cocoa, tea) but keep that schedule M-F.
Take them to the library at least one afternoon a week...stick to that day every week so they'll know what to expect and make no other plans for that one afternoon. They'll find an interest or pursue one they already have.
Grades should improve but most importantly, priorities. Sat morning should be chores, nothing major, but have a list of jobs for each of them. Stick to it...if you want kids to be responsible adults. An allowance is important and rewarding....five buck a week for doing and not griping about it.

i'd love to know that answer myself after being dragged out of bed at 6:30 this morning by my 3 year old - meanwhile weekdays i can't get him out of bed at 7:00 to get him ready for pre-school/daycare
what it probably is, is they know they have to go to school, and most kids aren't crazy about staying in the same place for extended periods of time
on the weekend, they know they've got the whole day to do pretty much what they want and so they want to take full advantage of every minute
it could also be that they are just used to getting up early, and are set on a schedule of some sorts
who knows, but it drives me crazy too!!

Usually because they don't want to be at school but on weekend they don't want to loose a minute of fun time or social time w/ freinds/family. If this is a problem for you, try to make oversleeping on school days very uncomfortable (at the time of the offense) and make getting up on time GREAT!! Like earning fun time on the weekends or getting some other type of non-food reward.

Obviously they look forward to their weekend! They do not enjoy going to school, which is why they want to sleep in. They are excited about their days off so they get up early so they don't waste a single moment!

Think about it, does that really matter. I'm sure it probably sucks but keep in mind....they are kids, love them and don't sweat the small stuff, ya never know when God will need them.

Human nature. Getting up to do school is a bore, getting up to face a "free day" is exciting.
