recently i adopted a stray cat. after doing some search on the internet, I think the cat might be a birman. However, it's feet are not whie.. ie.. no gloves... it's eyes are pale blue... not a typical blue as a birman.... despite these, it looks pretty much like a birman... can anyone tell me how to distinguish my cat?? any possibilities that it's neither himalayan and birman??
thanks a lot...

The possibilty that it is neither is great. It is most likely a mix of Siamese and some Domestic Longthair (what they call cat mutts) that happened to get the pointed cat's markings. There are just not as many purebred cats around as dogs, in general, and very few that get let out or loose. But, go to www.cfainc.org & look at pics of the Birman & Himalayan (now listed under the Persian) & see if the cat has more in common with either of them besides markings - such as face structure, build, etc.

Did you know that you can get a cat that is marked and looks very much like both of those breeds from an average litter????? That is how many cat breeds got started. A spontanous mutation discovered in a barn kitten and then someone bred for what they found. I have seen hany "Himi" looking kittens from a black mother , the rest of the kittens being black. Also in many other colored litters.
The chance that it is either is remote. Himi would be more likely since they are a more popular breed. It can never be proven that it is even pure anyway.

They decision heavily in visual attraction. The breed profiles and criteria of all 3 must be stumbled on at this cyber web web site. word: the CFA considers the Himalayan a version of the Persian breed.

Its probably a mix. i do cat rescue and can say i see alot of mixes. if its eyes are REALLY plae and it is a SOLID white long haired chances are it is a white PERSIAN. most people mistake these for himalayan but there not. they are a seperate breed without sox.

Colors can vary widely. Without the pedigree papers you can never be sure.
