From the gospel of Matthew, the last thing he said, he accused God of forsaking him. Could it be that he realised he was only mortal and not really the Messiah?

27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
27:47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.
27:48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
27:49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

more details... so far the answers are interesting, but they don't sway me one way or the other with my 'theory'

What would Jesus say?

2006-09-23 01:10:26 · answer #1 · answered by Wolfie 7 · 2 2

No, because when he said My God, My God Why have you forsaken me.
He still thinks that God exists just that God is not going to stop it from happening. If that was the end of the story then maybe I would look at it your way. But it doesn't. I think it has to do more with Crisis of Faith, and sacrifice. The pain that we all feel, and sepreation that we all have felt from time to time.

Its a cool theory though

Despite being a perfect human being, the fact was that his brain was dying. He was suffocating from the lack of oxygen as his lungs were being compressed by hanging with his hands directly above his head. This was a common mode of execution in Israel, as it guaranteed death by sundown, unless they tried holding themselves up using their legs, but if they do, their legs would be broke.

I know what it is like to have your brain dying from lack of oxygen. You lose contact with reality. You see and feel things, and time begins moving slowly. One could only imagine what that must have been like for a being who also hard 100% use of their mental capabilities. In may case, my lungs were full of fluid and my heart was coming to a stop, when they put me on life support. I also had a 105.5 temperature, which stayed that high for over 2 weeks. It is an experience I would not recommend for anyone, not even Christ. But, he did go through it, because he also knew he would be resurrected, after sleeping in the grave for three days.

Jesus was never a athesist, He cried my father why hast thou forsaken me, God never did forsaken Jesus, God only let Jesus feel the sins of the whole world upon him, If you think God had forsaken Jesus, why was there a great earthquake after Jesus gace up the ghost.

Don't be an idiot.

Are you telling me that after hours of being tortured, and having just been nailed to a cross you wouldn't have a moment where you suffered?

Crying out to His Father doesn't mean that he became an athiest.

No. He called out to His Father in pain and agony for it to be over. Read further after the stone is rolled away from the tomb and He appears to Mary Magdalene.Imagine what He had been through even though He knew it was His destiny and His purpose. He was in human form. He felt every whip , every nail and hung for days in pain, sorrow and agony for us.

How would Jesus be an athiest? He spent his whole life teaching other people the ways of God and preaching the word of God.

jesus yielded up his spirit - you are misquoating the bible..yielding up a ghost and yielding up his sprit mean two different things...

Jesus became 100 % flesh that is when he was crusified.

and how dare you suggest Jesus was an atheist.

Jesus was most definitely an atheist (if he actually existed).

He claimed to be his own God and followed no religion....

Sounds like an atheist to me.

Response to other comments, RE: Jesus calling to God:

According to Trinitarian doctrine, Jesus is God, so he was calling out to himself, praying to himself and worshiping himself. He wasn't just an atheist, he was an extreme atheist. I don't know any other atheists who actually claim to be Gods.

Could very well have if he even really existed. That could explain why he never came back like all those Christians have been waiting on him to do for billions of years.
