MARMALADE: is a tender jelly with small pieces of peel distributed evenly throughout. A marmalade commonly contains citrus fruit but the word actually derives from a product (marmelada) consisting of quinces (marmelo in latin) and honey.
PRESERVES: are whole fruits or large pieces of fruit in a thick syrup, usually, but not necessarily, slightly jellied.
JAM: is made from crushed or ground fruit and tends to hold its shape but is generally less firm than jelly and, unlike jelly, is not strained to remove the fruit pulp.

Marmalades are made from citrus fruits, like oranges, pineapple, grapefruits, etc. Preserves are basically like jam, but they usually have bits or chunks of fruit in them, too. Jams are basically jellies, but without all the whole "gel" thing going on that makes jelly so solid. Jam is kind of the consistency of honey-meets-molasses.

Marmalade is always made from oranges and contains peel or rind from the skin in it usually. Preserve is thicker and is essentially posh jam made from concentrated fruit (a bit like set honey). Jam, finally is just fruit preserve made from whole fruit and can contain pips in.

Marmalade usually has the rind of the fruit and chopped bits of fruit in it. It generally contains citrus fruit of some sort -- orange, lemon, grapefruit, kumquat.
Preserve has whole pieces of the fruit in it (at least as whole as possible after processing).
Jam has the fruit all mashed up or pureed.
