I've noticed this myself and, being retired, I no longer have as many day to day experiences to occupy my mind. This could be one factor.

As we age, we become more aware of our own mortality. We do an interal inventory of our life and see where we have been and where we are. We reflect on what could have beens, roads untaken, missed oppurtunities and such. Most of the time if a memory is very strong there is an unresolved issue. You can't go back and redo an unhappy childhood but you can look at why these things still have an effect on you today. Trauma Resolution Therapy is a wonderful way to manage these feelings and memories in a safe and supportive environment,

What was it that made your childhood unhappy? Perhaps you are now seeing how this trauma or mindset of depression has affected Your life. If that is you in the photo My guess is that you are an elder and are now thinking harder of the possibilities of what your life might be like now if your childhood were not so unhappy. Where you abused? alone..no friends, what ever it was-
My advise? you have got to let go of those bad memories. So change course and steer clear of any of those thoughts that seem to have held with you for so long. So think of the happier times and focus on them.and who was present during those happy times and give them a call. And thank them. it would be a good start. best wishes.

Because when you get older your short term memory ability weakens. By that time childhood memories are long term memories....
hence why you remember details from your childhood clearly and can't remember most of what happened a couple of weeks ago!
Its a sign of ageing (which we all do from the day we were born) nothing at all sinister!

Healing The Child Within by Charles L Whitfield, MD, this book (and others by the same author) may probably be out of print, but may still be available if you order special from one of those specialty bookstores.
I worked on my childhood issues too, more than 10 yrs. I feel emotionally healthy after having 'worked thru' many painful memories.
If you could, try and find a good therapist to supplement your reading and healilng.
good luck!

Just try what i used-
TAKE olive leaf extract EVERYDAY AND NO BEER OR BREAD, these are depressing!
take st johns wort, u may need this for at least 2 years, have a 2 week break every 2 months
plus evening primrose oil n fish oil will help u b happy
my childhood wasnt happy either, but we're all human so we have to allow ourselves to feel the pain and then LET IT GO
THINK POSITIVE IT WILL GET BETTER!!

Don't know the answer, but I know what you mean..weird isn't it. I'm turning into my old folks & will soon be talking about powdered eggs & when I saw my first banana after the war....well I won't actually as life in South Africa was good in WW2 unlike in the UK.
