If you exchange the milk in your daily intake for water, you will be saving the exact amount of calories that the milk contains. This in and of itself should lead to a slow steady loss over a long period of time.

As for muscle, the only way to gain muscle is to exercise. I know I hate that answer too. However, exercise isn't the old fashioned stuck in a rut thing that it used to be. Dance, yoga, pilates, swim, even simple walking can all lead to muscle mass gain. Muscle is amassed as part of the ATP system. The basic building blocks of our metabolism. I would not recommend any special drinks or such for this because they are not needed.

Study after study has shown that drinking 8 eight ounce glasses of water a day assists in losing weight and keeping it off long term.

Yes drinking water instead of milk will aid in losing weight, but milk may be filling for you and prevent you from eating. Muscle is gained through exercise most of all and eating enough protein which is easily achieved by a balanced diet. I dont think water for milk substiution will be enough. But I think you are on the right track. Try to replace as many bad habits with good ones as you are comfortable with. It is working for me and I think it is the best for people who cannot stick to a strict regime in the long term

milk contains quite a few calories - it will help you loose a little weight!!

Water will help you purify your body - it will help you flush out excess water - so a little weight will be lost here too because you your body won't be storing as much water.

Cutting milk and drinking more water won't help you build any muscle though. Muscle is built through breaking it down through excercising. It then "re-builds" itself with the use of additional protein that you feed it.

I would suggest starting a light excercise program..

good luck
