The VOB, BUP, and IFO files are what are created when you change your AVI file into DVD format. You can either change your AVI to DVD format or just burn your AVI file onto the DVD (don't use the create DVD function). If you object is to create a DVD that can be played on your player, you'll have to convert your AVI to DVD format first.

Hi
I am assuming here that you need to burn the AVIs as DVD because your DVD Player doesn't support AVI [you can check that on manual's first couple of pages or on the internet -it'd support DIVx if it can play AVIs].
If you need to use nero to burn DVDs from AVI files first you need to have a plugin installed which is required to convert the AVI to DVD format and uses a separate software which is a part of Nero package [apart from nero express / burning rom]. Its called Nero Vision Express.
If you have all this, its pretty simple, go to Vision Express Choose make movie option, in the new windows you need to choose the AVI then there are a couple of menu options choose whichever you like and then burn destination should be your DVD drive. And hey presto there is your DVD.
The only downside of using AVI to create DVDs is its a time consuming process, takes upwards of 2 hours to transcode and convert.
Cheers!

What I do is I use DVD shrink and Nero is compatible with DVD shrink OK open DVD shrink click the open disk button another window will pop up, click OK this will analyes the dvd if a long movie reauthor, if the movie will fit onto a 4.7gb disk then hit backup in the toolbar when done the rom will open and take out the movie and put in a blank one
Use 1 - 4 x for burning it gets the best results
dvd shrink is a free programme use the one with 15 on the end its stable and i have burn 300 dvds
