I really don't want to buy a new one, so any advice would be appreciated.

I'm afraid this cant be fixed .. if it is still under warranty i would get in touch with the manufacturer as they would be under obligation to replace it if it is in the first 12 months of purchase

if there is a black line on it, the glass in the screen may be cracked. the only way this can be fixed is to have the screen replaced.

im not sure but i know those tvs arent very reliable and have a short life

use a hammer,if that dont work buy a plasma(lot better)
