First, the brain absorbs 10 megabytes of data a second for thousands of sources. Al the nerves of your skin, you smell, hearing, and sight. Reducing distractions, like not listening to music while studying, allows more of your brain's data processor handle what you are reading. The reverse also works. If you are listening to an audio lecture, close your eyes. Eat a snack, but not a big meal. A snack increases the blood flow, but too much will make you sleepy. Don't study from 4-5 P.M. Take a nap, than study. The times 4 A.M. and 4 P.M. are the two points when the brain is the least efficient. These are the times with the greatest on the job and in home injuries, as well as car accidents. Finally, get plenty of sleep. Everything you learned is stored in temporary memory while you are awake. It is not until you go to sleep, that it is sorted and stored. This take 8-10 hours.

Aside from sorting and storing what you learned, when you are sleeping, you do all your growing and developing. Your immune system regenerates and repairs are done, including moisturizing of your skin. The lactic acid gets washed out of your muscles and is replaced with oxygen.

So, do your studying, but remember to get plenty of rest. You are still growing and developing, until age 24. Age 30 for males.

Buy and read a booklet called "Study" at your local Church of Scientology. You don't have to join or anything. I was born and raised Catholic, but found this information to be extremely useful! You can just call the bookstore and get it. L. Ron Hubbard discovered the three barriers to study. Knowing what they are and how to handle them is key to effective study.

I will tell you what I know from memory, but you should buy the booklet and get the data from the source, not second-hand.
It only costs about five bucks, but the information is priceless to anyone wishing to improve their study. Your IQ will go up simply from having this knowledge and using it.

Three barriers to study:

1. Misunderstood words.

You must look up the definitions of the technical words that you do not understand. If you pass even one single word that you did not fully know the meaning of, from that point on, your ability to learn that subject is reduced.

2. Lack of Mass. That means that you are experiencing not enough physical objects to handle with the subject you are learning about. For instance, trying to learn how to drive a car without the car present. It can cause all sorts of physical reactions!

3. Too steep a gradient.

Meaning that whatever you are trying to learn, you went on to the next level without your having understood the level you are on first or you skipped a level. for instance, moving from A to F to T instead of A, B, C. One gradient to the next.

This is only part of the data. Having only what I've mentioned here and using it will help you tremendously. But you should have the data from the source, not from me as there is much more information in the booklet, like what happens to you when you pass a misunderstood word. It's very specific. There are exact symptoms for each barrier and if you know them, then you know which one is affecting you at that moment so you can handle it.

Good Luck!

do it when you the least full and most awake. Right when all your adrenaline kicks in (you can measure this based on when you wake up consecutively to when you feel most awake). Another thing that helps is music in the background...they say you remember stuff better.
