Yes you can use anything flat & white as a screen.
"BUT"
WHY WOULD YOU?
There are special paints available at elctronic shops where they sell projectors. If you have a projector you can buy a cheap screen at an office supply store that gives you better clarity and color as they have a glass particle on the screen that makes the image better. For home theatre, when you can afford it go for the best screen which is abot $1,200.00 and has thousand of small pin sized holes which allows the sound to go through the screen much the same as high end theatre or the IMAX theatres.
"very Cool"
So to you answer several options.
1) Bare wall- shitty quality
2) Specialty paint for screen- OK but likely as expensive as a cheap screen
3) White crisp sheet tacked tightly so you have no movement-OK
4) Cheap screen from Staples $50-$75 better
5) Home theatre screen $1,200.00 is best yet.
BTW there are also projectors available now that have built in DVD players and small speakers sytem that can be expanded to better sound through RCA jacks. Price is about $1,100.00>
Good Luck

RE:
Can Anything Flat And White Be Used As A Projector Screen ?
I am thinking of buying a projector but I dont want to waste money on a screen, can't I just use something smooth, flat and white or is there something special about real projector screens ?

Well, most anything, as long as it's white, flat and big enough for the job, yes. A white wall would work well, or a big white sheet, as long as you secured it, perhaps to a wooden frame to make it taut.
We've used our hallway wall on occasion to view slides on a slide projector, unfortunately it's woodchip, so it's not the best. Flatness is the key here.
Surely projector screens aren't that expensive though? I'm guessing the new-fangled electric ones are, but an old one would do the job very well, and the advantage with a projector screen is that it's taut, and can be rolled back up very effectively. Well, anyway, whichever avenue you go down, good luck :)

Yes, however it will take greater light output from the projector to create the same image you would see with a lighter color. In most cases the image is going to be very dark so it won't be anywhere near an ideal situation. Most projector screens are white or shades of grey depending on your specific room. The biggest factor you are going to have to deal with is any ambient light in the bar which will increase the light output requirements quite a bit. The easies way to find out how bright the image is going to be is to actually hook it up and try it. However, if you happen to own the bar, you can easily paint a square section of the wall where you want to project the image. Just use Behr PREMIUM PLUS® Interior Flat White #1050 which can be found at Lowes or Home Depot with ease.

You'll get an image on almost anything white or light, but proper screens are coated in a variety of surfaces, I think the best have tiny reflective beads which throw back a much brighter image. Basically you get what you pay for.
PS I've got a screen and Kodak projector no longer used, mail me if interested.

I give sales demonstrations from a laptop and frequently take a projector with me. You can use any flat surface (like a wall) to get an 'acceptable' picture.
A proper screen is better - they give an even, 'pure' white - and are well worth the money.

If your going to the expense of buying a projector for your home theatre, don't be a cheapa.s.s. and buy a proper screen.

oh, i'm sorry, i thought this question was about paris hilton. although she is flat and white, she probably doesn't make a good projector screen.
i'm not a tv specialist, however, i did stay at a holiday inn express last night!

yes and no
I've made many screens, but I have to say the one I bought from DaLite has the best picture. Some come close, but it takes alot of trial and error.
It also depends on your projector specs. etc etc etc
http://www.avsforum.com/
this will give you more info than you will ever need, even plans on how to make your own screen etc etc
