there is no specific or prescribed age for this awareness - this depends on the socio-cultural factors of the child/individual.
It all starts with the self awareness whether its a boy or girl. its common that the boy/girl gets some kind of pleasure playing with one's genitals very early, but without knowing what it is.
In my view, parents should ensure that thier children get this awareness from from around the 9th year(normally), by providing some light readings, starting from the birds and bees :)
important that it is NOT treated as taboo, but a natural and beutiful thing to happen in life. Important as well to orient on the safety, age and other matters.

If I was a parent I would want my children to know that when they reach their teenage years, they should consider waiting as long as possible before engaging in sexual activities. Even for adults like myself sex is something that we just don't jump in to out of lust. I am sure that you are going to find a few primates on both sides of the sexual fence but for the most part people want to be ready and attracted to their mates. Single people like to complain about not getting enough sex but deep inside they all know that it isn't much if you don't really love the person you are with. The age should be dictated by the parents and the educational system.

almost everyone in my 5 th grade knew about s..ex
1. not below the age of 11
2. around 12-13 when they aready but everyone finds out at a early age it mosty depends on the ppl ur around

Nisha, children get this knowledge in the womb. You must have heard of Abhimanyu of Mahabharata. He gets the knowledge of chakravyuh in womb.
