If they're doing it when they're purring and kneading away at you, it's probably anticipation as they're hoping you'll produce some milk for them.

We have a Tabby cat and she started to dribble, it went on for ages in the end I took her to the vets, it was her teeth that was troubling her and she had to have about four out the dribbling stopped.

My cat used to do this and the vet checked her thoroughally and found nothing wrong (it was excessive). He said it was probably a sign of affection and contentment.
I liked to believe that it was because she was so happy.

2 theories: one is a build up of furballs in the stomach. another is that when ur cat is being affectionate and purrs with you, it releases some sort of chemical in the muscles, causing saliva!!! take it as a compliment. i do

I've had cats my entire life, and only 6 years ago did I encounter a "drooler." She's a cat who loves to knead, and purrs like crazy when she does. And, while she's happily into that, she drools.
I checked with our vet, and they assured me that nothing was wrong - this is just something some cats do.
So, love your cat. Make sure you spay or neuter them, and keep them as indoor only cats.
Cats who are allowed outdoors are allowed to encounter other cats to fight, dogs to chase them, cats to hit them, and horrible people who go through neighborhoods stealing outdoor animals and selling them to research labs. This happens more commonly than anyone wants to imagine.
Keep them safe.

Cats are the laziest animal on the planet, they are so lazy they even forget to swallow. My cat fits this category.
