I would prefer a dog. But if you live alone, I wouldn't suggest it since dogs like the company of others and it's not fair on them to be alone. Cats on the other hand are more independent. Hamsters or birds won't make a good 'companion' or 'friend'.
hope that helped :)

I think almost everyone would be better persons if they had a nonjudgmental friend to come home to; who would love them and be there for them 24/7, no matter what. For me that's a cat. But I love their independence & the fact that I know they are happy with their own company when I am not there with them. I also adore dogs. They tend to be more generally affectionate than cats, but they are very social creatures and should not be left alone for long periods of time, especially if they must be indoors.

Any animal that must live in a cage is a less desirable pet for someone who is looking for a loving companion, as these creatures do not have much concern for anything not directly affecting their environment. Some of them can be loving, it's true, but most are simply there. They eat & poop, and if they feel like it they'll let you pet them, but with only a few notable exceptions, they are not the type of pet that really gets attached to you. Iguanas seem to be capable of close personal attachments if they have not been in a petshop environment for too long, but they are hard to properly care for, and subject to many serious infections.

You need to determine what you have to offer, and what you're willing to give to a pet, because they all have different needs. Also things like living space can determine the size & number of pets you could have. Don't forget, once you have a pet, they are your responsibility 24/7.

Now for the most important part: NEVER, EVER, Ever buy a pet from a pet store. That just puts money in the pockets of disreputable breeders who care nothing for their animals aside from how much profit they can get from the sale of their young. But directly from a reputable breeder, whose home & breeding area is there for your inspection, if you want a purebred pet. But the best place to get your next best-friend-for-life is your local humane society or rescue society. Then get your friend spayed or neutered, as needed.

So what's the best pet? It's the one who melts your heart when you look into it's eyes. Doesn't matter if it's a dog or a cat, or a bowl of goldfish. It's the animal that makes you feel great about getting home at the end of the day.

If you want to come home to it without needing to take it for a walk first thing you open the door, better choose a cat over a dog. If you want your house to be clean when you come home, better choose a cat over a dog or rabbit. And if you want to come home to a little friend for longer than a couple of short years, again pick a cat, they have the highest life expectancy of all the animals you mentioned (15 to 20 years).

I've had all four and it's between a dog or a cat. It's hard to choose because they are both very affectionate and are more intelligent than rabbits or hamsters. Dog's are more high maintanance but cats are harder to train. Also dogs you can take out with you whereas cats you can't really. but cats make up for it by not running away like dogs do.

hi there!I'm from the Philippines,i think you should get a dog because:
1.you can choose the right breed for your self!(like if you want a sweet playful dog that is child friendly you can get a pug.)(just saying) =)
2.they are cute!
3.you can teach them tricks like to get your slippers when you are lazy to get them after work!
4.some one to talk to when you are down

love,
nicstar =)

well i think a dog is the best pet.Its loyal friendly and clean.The main problem is the training period but after he is trained he will be the best companion and ofcourse a friend.
