My boyfriend, who lives in Florida and is 21 yrs old, just told me that he gets chosen for the military...as far as i know there hasn't been any military drafting for the past 3 decades and how come he's "chosen"? He told me there are 20 of them (the ones who're chosen) and the only way to refuse is by medical proof. I've heard there's been shortage of US soldiers but is it true that they're making people to get into the army by this method? I'm really worried because i REALLY don't want him to get into the army and neither does he. Anyone from the states or Florida please give me some idea ASAP because he's saying he'll need to leave on Wednesday :(

thanks a lot for all your answers!! i think i'm going to leave him a msg tonight...
i didn't know about the law there in the US because i live in Hong Kong. so for those who're wondering, my bf doesn't even need to make up any excuse to get away from me because no one would bother with that in a long distance relationship. but my guess is that he's talked into something...somehow he just trusts people too easily...i'm really worried if he's signed anything with those "military people" he's been talking to..

I think that the others are correct - you (and your boyfriend) must be thinking about the "Selective Service" - which all males have to register with by their 18th birthday.
Check out the link below.
There are a great many reasons why the military won't re-instate the draft.
First and foremost is because the military doesn't need a draft. The Army met their last recruiting goal, and I'm pretty sure they're doing a pretty good job of retaining their people as well.
The Air Force actually has more people than they need to. They're downsizing, and encouraging Air Force people to switch over to the Army (google Air Force and blue to green).
Second - the military doesn't want a draft. With a draft, you get people who don't want to be there, stay one year and then get out. So the military ends up training that person, spending money to get them ready to fight - then after one year, they essentially loose all that money they invested in the person.
I also wonder, with others, if he's not using this as an excuse to get some time away from you.

What? I think your boyfriend is wanting a vacation from you. There is no draft. If he did not sign up for selective service when he turned 18 then they may be telling him he has until Wednesday to do so or they will come and get him and put him in the local jail until he complies with this regulation.
But no I do not think he is in anyway being drafted. I think he is pulling one on you and you should check with his family or even go to the army recruiter yourself and ask them. Most of the people who are being sent over seas are our national guard. so if he is not one of those then he is not in the military and is not being forced to. no draft at all right now.

There is currently NO service draft in the US military. Are you confusing 'draft' with a 'recall' of former active status? Was your boyfriend already in the service before his 'notice' to report for duty? If he does go, ask him to send you a letter with a recent photo of him and his service buddies from Iraq. Or, you could just ask his other girl friend where he it at!

What somewhat amazes me is that we expect of that that is achievable to circumvent civilian casulaties while our enemy makes use of civilians as cover and disguises themselves as civilians. Then we've whiners who ***** that civilians get harm fairly than saving their anger for the cowards who use civilians the two as camoflauge and as shields for his or her terrorist activities. to boot, the terrorists view the killing of those comparable civilians as a militia objective (e.g. bomb explodes in Iraqi city, 40 3 lifeless - they are just about consistently civilians) Our troops are not getting to cover among civilians. think of how powerful they may well be if that become authorized. as a replace we could placed on uniforms, have bases in separate, extraordinarily identifiable places and circumvent hurting every person who hasn't been pointed out as already having attacked the two civilians, the government or our troops. are you able to work out the form of strait jacket that places our troops in? those are the "rules" that individuals, who want to experience sturdy approximately our strikes, put in place. Then human beings have the gall to show arms and contact the troops criminals while they tutor that, they too, are human, by ability of making blunders the two in identity or objectives or in delivery of weapons. supply those damaging men and ladies a wreck. ***** concerning to the terrorists blatant and planned use of civilians to circumvent out troops effectiveness. Direct your anger there, the place it belongs. BTW, observed your element re: the LB bombs and that i've got not got the certainty to answer that. you may perhaps be suitable concerning to the weapon no longer suiting the use. do we produce different much less deadly munitions to end the comparable challenge?
