They are NOT both right. This is exactly what the Creationist propagandists are trying to do - create the illusion that there is a debate so that people will say well lets compromise and give both some credence in science classes. NO!

There is no debate! There are NO significant holes in evolution - if you believe this you have been decieved by Creationist propaganda. Evolution is Science and Creationism is Religion, and not in ANY WAY Science.

I think that there is a fine line between fact or fiction with this issue. Evolution is a field of study based on the same scientific principles that brought about cars, electricity, medicine, nuclear power, automobiles, and even the computer you are currently typing on. Creationism (or Intelligent Design Creationism which is what would be taught in schools) was actually originally formulated by a lawyer out on the west coast who had a problem with the idea that children were being taught something that didn't exactly support some christian thoughts and beliefs. It is not based on science but rather science fiction as the main idea is that everything was created by an intelligent designer, God. I am raised Catholic and I can tell you that Creationism is horsesh1t. Conservative christians have a very narrow view of what exactly to and what not to interpret when it comes to the bible. The late Pope John Paul II and Benedict have both stated that you are not supposed to take the first and last book of the bible literally. I also would like to make it clear that the first book of the bible is the only book that evolution proves to be untrue. It has been scientifically PROVEN that the Earth was formed over billions of years ago and not in a record breaking 7 days.

Evolution does have a few holes, but the main idea is something that is relevent for a science class. It brings students knowledge of the topics of radioactive dating, archeology, forensic chemistry, DNA fingerprinting, and chemical degradation to name a few. Creationism does not hold any scientific value and is inappropriate to be taught in a science class. Teach it in a religious class if you must but I was only taught evolution, and I still believe in God because of an idea that I formulated with everything that I know. I honestly believe that if you truly are against evolution, then you are also against the foundations of evolution and all that they represent. In other words, you are against all sciences. I think it is hypocritical that most people blatently say they are against some sciences and not all. If there's one thing I've learned from being a Biochemistry major, it's that all sciences are connected. You can't choose what sciences you will and will not believe, you have to accept it all.

In the end, creationism is wrong and has 100x more holes than evolution.

Christian beliefs include the Bible statement that there was no death on the earth prior to Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit. Evolution is incompatible with this, since it is a theory of species developing over generations and thousands/millions of years. Some natural selection does occur in shorter periods, but I believe that God created this earth and put us here for a very good reason. Although science is usually thought of as being very factual, in this case, it's a theory. So you decide which you want to follow; a theory or a belief.

Evolution and creationism are pretty much incompatible. Evolution and religion aren't necessarily incompatible. It's mainly the origin stories. I can accept some metaphysical reality but take creation myths as explanations from people who didn't have the scientific knowledge we do today.

If that is so,
You allow Evolution to be taught in Schools but not Creationism..
why do you say creationism is not science?
If Science means fully proved facts then stop teaching Evolution..

Because they both claim exactly opposing ideas. Evolution claims we evolved from the very beginning in a natural way, and creationism claims we were put on earth by a god. How do you make one single theory that includes both basic concepts?

Because evolution is science and the other is fiction. A computer game is also fiction.

It depends.

If your creationism depends on magic and divinity that you are probably off the mark.

If your creationism is a euphemism for reality and nature then I suspect they are compatible.
