However U asked it under millitary heading..i wud like to summurise all of the major problems of india--
1>Population Boom
India is the largest democracy in the world, with about 16% of the world?s population. India?s population growth remains around 2%, and currently the country grows by about 17 million people a year, which means its population will double within the next 35 years. But, keep in mind that not all births are recorded by the government, because many births still take place at home by means of midwifes or other elder women at home. Demographics estimate that even under the most optimistic estimates- India?s population will not stabilize below 1.7 billion (CIA, 1995). Take into consideration that India is one-third the size of America with a total land area of only 2,973,190 km2. The country remains predominantly rural, with just 26% of its people living in cities. Because of the current changes taking place in the nation?s economic, there is a swell of migration flowing into the cities from rural villages and farms. This tremendous migration is attributed to modernization of farming and cultivation techniques. Eviction of farmers and villagers is also a contribution of new irrigation schemes, which tend to divert the water supply away from rural villages. Construction of power plants and dams have also led to flooding of some villages and forests dwellings to retain the rivers, thus further adding to the influx of migration to the cities. Among the most controversial case involved the World Bank?s funding of the Andhra Pradesh II project in India, which resulted in an estimated two million people being uprooted from their ancestral lands and homes and forced into lower standard of life-style in near by cities.

Water: scarcity
The most serious environmental health problems in India are related to water. Rivers and water reservoirs are polluted, and groundwater levels are falling several meters every year. In India, water comes in three criterion and these are too much water, too little water, and too bad water. In most cases water supplies occur in two of the mentioned criterion during most of the year in the same area over time. The masses of India believe, that India as a nation lives and dies on the amount of monsoon rains in the given year. If the monsoon season brings too much rain than the agriculture and eventually all aspects of India?s economy suffers. During the monsoon seasons in India the river banks overflow causing the loss of many shanty villages and the loss of hundreds of lives because there are no warning precautions as far as mother nature is concerned. The flooding of the Ganges River forced more than 10,000 people in eastern India to abandon their homes following three days of heavy monsoon rains
In many parts of India the ground water levels have gone down by 10 to 15 times or even disappeared completely. Falling groundwater levels are particularly critical in areas where there are no other access to drinkable water except through potable water wells. In the cities the problem is being worsened by the increase demand on drinkable water due in part to rapid population growths. Some metropolitan cities have had to resort to limiting the amount of hours of water supply available during the day. This has caused major problems for the shanty settlements, where water is available through a few water outlets provided by the cities. There are usually long lines for these water distribution with some people having to go without water for the entire day.

Air Pollution
The major source of air pollution in India comes from fuel wood burning, untreated industrial smoke, vehicular pollution in the forms of smoke and noise. Currently, heavy use of fuel wood, mainly for cooking, contributes to the high levels of air borne particulate matter and has caused the depletion of forest cover around most Indian cities. The Hindu custom of cremating the dead using wood exacerbates this situation. Women and children are especially vulnerable to heavy concentrations of smoke in unventilated cooking areas of the home from both wood and dung used as fuel

Foreign Relations
INDIA'S FOREIGN RELATIONS reflect a traditional policy of nonalignment. The end of the Cold War gutted the core meaning of nonalignment and left Indian foreign policy without significant direction. The hard, pragmatic considerations of the early 1990s were still viewed within the nonaligned framework of the past, but the disintegration of the Soviet Union removed much of India's international leverage, for which relations with Russia and the other post-Soviet states could not compensate.
Pragmatic security, economic considerations, and domestic political influences have reinforced New Delhi's reliance on the United States and other developed countries; caused New Delhi to abandon its anti-Israeli policy in the Middle East; and resulted in the courtship of the Central Asian republics and the newly industrializing economies of East and Southeast Asia. Although India shares the concerns of Russia, China, and many members of the Nonaligned Movement (see Glossary) about the preeminent position of the United States and other developed countries, different national interests and perceptions make it improbable that India can turn cooperation with these countries to its advantage on most international issues. Furthermore, although Cold War politics have ceased to be a factor in South Asia, the most intractable problems in India's relations with Pakistan--conflict over Kashmir, support for separatists, and nuclear and ballistic missile programs--still face the two countries

Centric Issues--
TERRORISM - No end to it !

Terrorism thrives and exploits what they know to be the weakness of a democracy, specially where free trade and commerce dominate society. Those within a democracy are unable to fathom terrorism because laws based on socio-economic logic cannot perceive the willingness of the criminal to make suicidal and ruthless attacks, with no concern for ‘innocent’ civilians. This changes the equation and eliminates the effectiveness of “linear logic” that uses past norms as its guideline, and past patterns as its indicators.
Linear logic would thus recommend the use of transparent force and strength to crush the enemy.

NLT will not agree because the enemy is not linear and uses no forecastable or logical tool !!! While internally we have to make urgent changes in our 'definition of democracy'; externally we will need to have a greater silent strategy to atleast match the element of surprise to combat terrorism!!

"Democracy must be redefined for India and Asia !"

CORRUPTION IN INDIA
Lets not moralize since corruption seems to be all pervading and everywhere. So, can there be anything known as "Good v/s Bad corruption" ? We may have to consider solutions within corruption, because some countries like China have had economic growth for over a decade despite corruption. How??? Perhaps we need to think of the types of corruption, one that destroys capital and seeks ways to hinder commerce, versus corruption that seeks reward for greasing the wheels to accelerate the cycle of commerce.
BUT, we all must readily acknowledge that corruption is BAD and we apologize to the CVC for attempting to condone it. We are mere citizens watching over the last decades the rampant and geometric rise of corruption. We do not want the CVC to reduce his focus, but we also need to show that corruption requires tools that are borne from “bad laws”. Corruption in India is primarily created by bad laws, that preserve and prevent its eradication.
BLACK MONEY - Capital or Income ?
This has been a nightmare for the free market economy, the entrepreneurs in India and the Government who have been battling each other for decades.
Though it is obvious that lower taxes have helped ! BUT has there actually been a 'reduction' ? Black money still controls the bulk of our GDP and seems to keep our economy moving.
Why does it persist if and despite the reduction in taxes?

INDIAN RUPEE - When can we make it convertible ?
While policy dithers, and the experience of Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia in perspective, most decision makers are conveniently delaying full convertibility. Obviously all arguments have merit.
BUT in the meantime billions of dollars are flowing out of the country and our basic wealth continues to erode through devaluation. Despite rising foreign exchange reserves, the Indian Rupee continues to depreciate. This will not stop nor will it reach a safe position because the REAL and NEW position will emerge only after the "float". It appears that we will over devalue our currency if we delay because a huge fall will come after the float!!!

Are we ready to bear the brunt and accept the true global value of the Rupee?
FREE TRADE AND GLOBALISATION
We are stuck within attempts to reform because Indian industry has had 40 years of unfair controls and poor policy that has made them uncompetitive. BUT can we afford to wait? There are a billion of us who need to get a better deal for our money. Are imports 'anti-national' ?
WTO AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
We are unable to exert our influence within the WTO as the developed nations dominate the working rules, based on their economic muscle. Within this scenario we have to protect our own IPR, give returns to those in the developed world who control critical IPR, such as pharmaceuticals drugs for life threatening disease.
Can we think of ways to “give less and get MUCH more based on fair economic logic ?”
LABOUR - Hire and Fire !

This is the demand from foreign investors and Indian industry. For the public sector there is no way to survive except by reducing their overhead and bloated manpower numbers. BUT how do we do this within special interest and political lobby, taking into consideration the low incomes, and our countries social needs??

We have to reduce labour within the political system and with minimal conflict! (This is important as conflict alone can bring greater loss).

EDUCATION FOR THE MILLIONS
We need to educate millions, and yet millions of educated are unemployed ! This means that the 'system' does not produce an employable person.
"Complexity and uncertainty have become standard components, making forecasting of the future more difficult. Despite knowing the “right solution” we are unable to commence the process of implementation as we are handicapped by special interest groups and the lack of political will to allow change. This must be accepted by us as a fact, so that we can DEVELOP SOLUTIONS WITHIN THIS SITUATION AND WITHOUT CONSTANTLY CRITICISING THIS STATE."

Anyone who's kept an ear to India's politically elite understand their keen distrust of the western powers. It's been the overriding principle of Indian foreign policy for the last three decades. Just consider Indias policy of non allignment throughout the cold war era. India adhered to a theory that India would not ally itself with any power,. Of course, this was often a fasad for the Indian left to simply carry out their anti american policies through support of the soviet union. Even to this day, there is distrust of western powers among indias political elite, in fact, they are the most vocal in propositioning that India avert to a policy of alligning itself with the SE and eastern asian nations.
Secondly,
There is not doubt that there are slight complications in the federal government of India, but you fail to understand that these complications are a result of the centralized bueracracy that's been established by Indias left wing. No doubt corruption exists, but where does it not. As far as your comment on indian people, we know that Indian people have proven to be quite capable in the sciences, maths, and arts. On every campus of every major american university, you will find numerous Indian professors who are leading voices in their academic fields. Within India, India is transforming itself into a country that emphasises the sciences, maths, economics, and political science. Of course, this doesn't happen overnight. Do not forget that Indias ecnonomic condition is the result of western economic exploitation, and it takes time to reverse oneself. For it to work, Indias educational system must produce capable students, and it's doing so, especially in states like Kerela.
Thirdly,
Indian's are believers of fate. Don't Americans believe in fate? Of course, over 75% of that country considers itself to be christian, oh yeah, and they just happen to be a hegemonic power. Let's also look at China, which has shown that it is a millitary and political power, and could easily become an economic power in the coming decades. If I'm not mistaken, most people in that country believe in fate and reincartion.

Lack of coordination between the people. If something happens somewhere unorganised events take place without necessary planning thus causing problems. Same with the politicians, they arent the most corrupt they lack cordination thus expose themselves. Yet the united we stand policy also doesnt seem to be working because many talk and nobody do!

definitely its the mindset of our people
people don want to change here, people chose goverments, they should see wat the representative did for them and then only vote,
people hate beggars, people hate poor men,
people still believe in superstitions
people befor geting good jobs starts thinking of getting good under the table money,
people tell a lie wherever it fits for their goodwill
eery day they help themselves a little bit by giving or accepting bribes, it may be in college or anywhere we see. dey just need a chance
when employees are talked about privatization, they start thinking wat should they do to stop the privatization, they've to work na
people tell their children during learning period that how to be more smarter than others, not how to be more truthful
people tell lies in front of their children, young minds catches everything and follow those in their lives
politicians are also chosen by us, how can one blame a politician, our young dudes/dudettes dont like to vote, they have got no time to waste

Instead of asking others , ask yourself .

As an Indian , you should be thinking to overcome/solve the problems , not asking everyone like politicians that "What are the Problems There ....?"
